xcopy command +1 if you don't want to mess with other OSes. It's a rather old DOS command and I couldn't find it when I went Vista over a year ago so you may need to find and steal er borrow xcopy.exe from another PC with older OS. I've used it once to copy everything with ,jpg extension and using /s switch to search all subdirectories and dumped it to a 4GB USB drive. It threw up on me less than half way through C drive...

another alternative is this: depending on media types you have, either install a bootable version of linux on a thumbdrive, or DvD. use that to boot. mount your HDD in linux as a windows partition, then backup away as either usb, or dvd depending on media type that is available. Any linux disto will do as a live-cd, but ubuntu is pretty easy to understand. as far as a fast, usb tumbdrive linux, i recommend DSL (Dam* Small Linux) as it is...

Type msconfig in the Start Search field | 'Boot' tab | Check 'Boot log', hit OK and reboot. When you arrive at the Desktop, look for the ntbtlog.txt file in the %SystemRoot%\Ntbtlog.txt directory, then check the log for anything related to the slow startup. While in the Configuration Utility--> 'Boot' tab--> Boot Advanced Options, make sure 'Number of processors' is not checked.

You can use any amount of memory. There's no lower end for 64bit other than what it takes to run the O/S(same as 32bit). 4gb is nice right now, and probably for the next couple of years.

It won't make too much difference. Although I like having multiple hdds for extracting large rars which I do a lot, is much faster across drives. And I wouldn't trust all my stuff to one large hdd, important things I have copies of on multiple hdds, easier than messing with dvds or SD cards for backup. I run Vista on a partition on a 500gb barracuda and the rest for storage.

Do you have this folder (or it's parent) set to a library on your PC? I had this issue because I had the folder set in a library. so I guess it was indexing the files/folders that I was trying to change and it would give that error. As soon as I removed it from the library, it was fine. I know that isn't a fix, but maybe it is at least an idea of the possible problem
