5870 Available Anywhere? - Page...

Good to hear. I actually paid more for my last card, GTX 285 FTW, than I've paid for any of the four 5870's I have. I just need a new mobo with four slots now, or sell one and go with three in tri-fire. Although it's all overkill once you pass two. Or I might go with a 5970 + 5870.. I need to search out some benchies for that combo.. 5970's are even harder find, and are price gouged even more.

There is actually a thermalright cooler that points up , by that i mean , regularly a cooler takes a bottom slot below the card , this thing has heat pipes bend upwards so that the cooler takes up the the slot above the card . am not sure of the exact model but am sure google will assist

5770 differences?
Published (2009-12-07 15:07:00)
Wow that sucks. Where did you buy it from? Did the vendor site have a picture or anything, or list the model number? And non-standard mounting holes? I was under the impression they had been carried over from the 4800 series as far as that goes. Maybe it was only the 5850 and 5870 that can take existing heatsinks?

4890 or 5770?
Published (2009-12-07 13:13:00)
HD4890 has more horsepower, so I would go with that. Here is a review for you to chew on: http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon...review-test/14 For the record I just searched 5770 reviews in google and chose Guru3d's review.

Weird screen glitching, screen...
Published (2009-12-01 18:56:00)
Well, I have only RMA'd 2 motherboards, in the 12k I have spent on this hobby since I got into it. I would not feel bad about sending the card in, not 1 bit. I have read of a few others, with my particular Asus card, that had the exact same troubles as me. I did not say I would RMA the card, because that wont help, because the other fellows, still had the same problem when their cards came back. LIke the guys who had 295s like mine,...

MSI 5870/'s Benching
Published (2009-12-04 22:18:00)
One thing I noticed about my 5870 is that it is very quiet. My 4870 X2 would rev up immediately and was twice as loud as the rest of my rig. My 5870 however never goes above the rest of it, you can't tell from the sound when it's running a game or idling at desktop, there's just no difference. This card is amazing and I haven't even touched the ocing yet, it's much better than my 4870 X2.

Slow HD 5770... Ideas?
Published (2009-12-03 23:15:00)
Yeah the 5870 looses 1% at 8x 2.0 (or 16x 1.x) PCIe. Your cpu is the cause of your low scores, that GPU is far, far overpowered for that cpu and 1280x1024. The only time default 3dmark06 is really relevant is if you have an old monitor and you actually game at 1280x1024 (i do ).

Take off the shroud from the first card and have a fan point at it it from the side if possible , should work well .Generally getting another cooler for the card would be a best idea .

find the cheapest, they are all the same reference design, some have diffent coolers, some have different warranties.

Yes the PCIe slots on a P35 are 1.0 slots.
A 16x PCIe 1.0 slot will be the same speed as an 8x PCIe 2.0 slot. There are plenty of benchmarks of 8x PCIe 2.0 since that is common on many boards. You are looking at maybe a 2% performance loss if anything.
4x is a bit worse, as you are looking at the equivilent of a 2x PCIe 2.0 slot.
Check out these benchmarks: http://www....

The cheaper one uses analog power , where is the more expensive one uses digital , which allows for soft mod Vcore .

The easiest way is to use one of the Windows based flash tools at techpowerup. Always dump & save a copy of your card's original BIOS before you flash!!!

You would probably also want to use the Radeon BIOS Editor.

I want to be able to max out Modern Warfare 2, BFBC2, Mass Effect (and Mass Effect 2) at that resolution.
Is the difference in performance between the 4890 and 5770 worth $30?

Tbh I think your whole setup is showing its age. You could get a major performance upgrade just grabbing a sub 100 dollar computer. Can you see your resource usage while running fullscreen? If everythings at normal level I would vote the card is going.

"We also asked AMD if the EyeFinity tech could cope with monitors with different resolutions and sizes, and received an affirmative – which means that you could begin to add monitors as and when you like, including re-using old ones."

I would get 5770 personally. Its probably the same or a hair faster than 4870, uses less power and is DX11.

screen resolution you game at?
specs of the rest of system?
and budget please.
you may want to go another step higher than the 4670, i don't know if you'll see much of an increase in performance going to it.

MSI Afterburner won't run at start up? Mine does. I'm running dual 4870's with a small OC. Is a 58xx card issue?

CPU is likely holding a lot of that cards potential back... have you overclocked the CPU for this tesT?

Hi, what is VC? 256bit vc over a 128bit vc? You probably mean memory bus interface. Look at it as a highway between GPU and graphics memory on the card. 2 lines versus 4 lines. more bandwidth = better performance. It is more complicated in real life though, but you get the idea.
