I'm with Vic. Fun to read but i really can't follow what's being argued this whole time. I think Plekto and us others understand Az is trapped in a little box - that's what we were saying too. We were just saying "it is what it is" so good luck/have fun Az.

Saturday 07th November, 08:54 AM JST A woman looks at a poster with photos of Tatsuya Ichihashi, who is wanted in connection with the death of Briton Lindsay Hawker, at Gyotoku police station in Ichikawa, east of Tokyo, on Friday. Police released a new photo of the fugitive that was taken last month at a Nagoya clinic before he underwent cosmetic surgery there. He apparently had at least one face-lift elsewhere, police said.

The news on this guy just keeps getting better and better. He's spent the last 14 months working at a construction firm in Osaka, living in the company dorm, saving up thousands of dollars; and even went out karaoke with them, where he sang in English. Gotta wonder how dense his coworkers were, and why they didn't notice anything when the fake name he gives them doesn't have a tax ID number...

Given that many Japanese women are bent on having professional careers, I think it's actually good that potential dads are willing to invest in their life at home. I think that ideally, the father should work and mother focus on raising her children, but it's certainly better for the father to be involved than nobody at all!

I don't know enough about written Japanese to make comments on most of it, but isn't it more polite to use 尋ねる instead of 聞く? I'm not even sure if I'm right, so don't take my word for it. It just sounds more keigo-esque to me. My first reaction was also to say that ております might sound more polite than...

I wrestled in high school, and while slapping and such didn't happen, there was yelling if stuff got out of hand, but by and large its the athletes themselves that sort of enforce the discipline. The older, more experienced one's help out the new guys but they also make sure they're not screwing around and they're doing what they're supposed to. If there were certain people messing around we basically just partnered...

Re: the 25 yrs rule
Look up " Statute of Limitations" in US and individual state law. Most states used to have a 25- or 30-yr limit on murder, which wasn't changed until the '70s in most cases (federal changes as well). Many other offenses still have such statutes.
Ex: in current Colorado law
Murder, attempt, conspiracy, or solicitation to commit murder, kidnapping, attempt, ...

I just met an olympic gold medalist
So I went to this seminar thingy planned by the Friends of Japan society at the Teachers College tonight. I had no idea what was going on, aside from I didn't have anything else to do this evening, so I might as well. Isao Yoneda was there. I didn't know who he was until tonight, but apparently he ...

One time, I ordered "crunchy plum green tea" at a Japanese restaurant without knowing about umeboshi. It was not what I expected.

It's the kind of place that you buy outright and spend a decade refurbishing.(and about 100-200K in repairs by the looks of it!). Major, no TOTAL fixer project. The yard and boilers are certainly a major minus and in need of work. Replacing those with new equipment could run half of that $100-200K alone.
I'd only buy it outright for a very cheap price due to the extensive repairs that are ...

I graduated 20 years ago with a self-designed major in Japanese. I don't remember my thesis title, except that it had something to do with " Normative Behaviors" and "Communication Styles". I tried reading it once maybe 10 years ago and it was such crap that I had to put it down after the first few pages.
As for your title, it seems backwards to come up with the title first and then figure out ...

I find interesting the things Japanese politicians can say and still have
careers, like calling all foreigners criminals or stating that women over
the age of 50 serve no purpose in society/life, things that would pretty
much end a mainstream politician in the US.
