I talked with sister-in-law today who deals with PEGS all the time. She said what I had going on was normal. I said okay. She did say to keep watching it and keep cleaning it so it does not get infected.

Rob a google search turned up this interesting site on "frozen shoulder" FSS which basically says get PT. while my surgeon was able to avoid the SCM, I still had to take PT to avoid frozen shoulder. The good news is that PT has a great track record in healing this. Hang in their brother, Charm

Hi Angelia....I'm happy to hear you aren't not feeling sick..that is great news. Does your doctor know the problems you are having with the PEG? I know everyone here has invaluable information and proably know more that some docs..but..you still need someone to go over this with you in person and show you what you to do. How are you supposed to know what to do? Keep us posted...

Teeth - To Pull, or Not to Pull?...

Thanks, guys, for your input. Luckily for me, some of the financial pros where I worked as an admin assistant over 5 years ago found out about what's going on with me. One called me up and was insistent about wanting to do something. I told him about my dental quandary, and he got back to me right away with the name and number of his dentist, who has experience. I saw him yesterday, and he recommended I keep all my teeth, so the money I...

Angelia, You can probably contact the same company that delivered your supplement to get the supplies you need. Usually, once they have the orders for enteral feedings, they can contact your insurance company to get the precertification needed to get the bags and tube hookups (or pump) you need for the slow feedings. Then your SIL can show you how to use them. I fed Bill 6 cans per day along with water, etc. but he had to lie still after each...

Hang in there and lets pray they got it all. What caused the surgery in the first place? Was it because a node didn't shrink all the way down from the initial rad?

Find a specialist who is familiar with oral cancer patients. I think that type of dentist is called a Prosthodontist. Some people who dont have the best teeth will have them pulled before tx starts. Others will use a floride tray and be meticulous with their dental care. Sometimes this doesnt work and some patients will lose their teeth due to radiation damage. Thats what happened to me. Everyone is different and can have their OC be at...

Published (2009-12-02 03:21:00)
Thanks for the replies and good wishes! I've now completed my third day of radiation - 1 session on Monday and 2 sessions Tuesday and Wednesday- 5 down - 22 to go(I think). So far so good but my skin is already redder than last time around but only on the left where I had the previous radiation. I tolerated the Chemo (Cisplatin) really well and so far have no real concerns. I am going home for the weekend and on Monday will restart the...

Thanks all. They let me go home today. That's a nice step in the right direction. I see my surgeon again Wednesday when I'll get my staples out. I was pleased that my MO came in to talk with me last night; she and the rest of my team haven't had much time to confer yet... and the pathology report won't be available until Tuesday. I told her I feel we're now moving into uncharted territory where I'll need to rely...

Flap Died??? - Oral Cancer...
Published (2009-11-28 12:39:00)
Hi Barry, My husband's flap from his left thigh became necrotic 8 days after his initial surgery. The 2nd day we were home, his developed a fever, there was a putrid odor and his drains were sludgy. He was airlifted to the hospital where they debrided the flap hoping to save it. Two days later, they removed the necrotic flap and replaced it with a flap from his right thigh. That was 2 years ago. The second flap worked out great. At first,...

My MO said we may mess up my teeth, but not to do anything up front since mine were in good shape. RO did not bring it up other than to look at them himself. I have had no problems since treatment other than some sensitivity. The feedback I got was that if you had good teeth it would not be a great problem. So far so good for me.

I am almost through Radiation and one more round of chemo and my ENT is recommending a neck dissection post-treatment. He told me that statitsically, there is a 10% better chance of avoiding re-occurance with the surgery so given my ability to generally tolerate surgery, I've agreed.

Hi Barry, I haven't got any answers for you as I've never had a flap, but it sounds like the flap is required for QOL issues. If they are planning further radiation then the flap issues would need to be resolved beforehand because tissues post radiation are much slower to heal. I was wondering how you were doing and am sorry to hear that you now may have to face further surgery. Angelia and ...

Sue, I know we have had more than a few re-radiated but I don't remember anyone having 2 a days during the entire time. Three years ago I was also told once was it but since then many have gotten it twice. I always said that given the 2 options I would certainly tell them to hit me again. Good luck and lets kill this crap for good.

Hi Pam, Unlike you, I happened upon this site when my husband was reaching the end of his treatment. Initially we were in a similar state of mind and researching treatment and hospitals seemed overwhelming. I think a lot of decision making in health care is based upon available resources and access to care. In our case, we chose a local cancer care center with experienced staff who came up with a...
