I would say that being America is the lone superpower country in the world it gives the dollar its value. Also for the past couple of decades the world has used the dollar as best currency to trade with. At this present moment America economy is in shambles but it is still seen as the lone superpower. She is still capable to shape and dictate policies at home and abroad to suit her whims and fancies. Unless another country can replace her as...

Checking with the companies is a really good idea. I hadn't thought about that before. But besides how much to actually tip, I'm really more curious if people actually do this and whether they tip the recommended amounts. Every holiday time there are news articles about how much to tip workers that no one tips during the year. I'm curious because I have a job that I get paid for. I don't get Christmas bonuses or any kind of...

In very simplistic terms, the dollar is a symbol of America's productivity vs. its consumption. That is the basis of its "real" value, which is not the same as its perceived value. The latter is based on the market and how much supply there is vs. demand for dollars. When there are international stresses, the strength of the US, politically, militarily, and economically, makes more people around the world desire greenbacks to...

The only thing that gives dollar its value is the legal tender rules promulgated by U.S. Congress , which says, "“This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private.” -quote- "But since 1971, the U.S. dollar has been convertible into absolutely nothing. Why then do people still work for them? The answer is legal tender laws. If you look at one of your dollars, you will notice it says, “This note is legal tender for...

The U.S. dollar is most easily measured by its exchange rate, which compares its value to other currencies. Exchange rates change every day because currencies are traded on an open market. Exchange Rate Trends: The dollar weakened 20% against the euro between March 3 - December 1, 2009. The $12 trillion U.S. debt reduces confidence in the dollar's value. During the credit crisis, (April 2008-March 2009) the dollar strengthened 22% as...

Apple is a good pick, although at $200 it's expensive. That said, if their new tablet is a hit (and their iPhone & App Store continue to expand), I don't see any reason it won't continue going up. I wouldn't buy Microsoft though. Google and Apple are hurting it.

I opted into the plan. The deductions have been shown on my pay stub. If I did not opt into the plan my monthly check would have been higher. The issue is that the money that should have gone into my SEP was part of my salary.
