False nails seem to stop my urge...
Published (2008-11-17 22:55:00)
False nails definitely helped me not want to pick my scalp as much. It just does not feel the same and I cannot pull at the skin like I want to because the nail tip is too thick. Though I hate wearing false nails, I think I may wear them long enough to treat my patches and let the hair start growing back in before I take them off. I thought I was the only way that felt that way about false nails until I read somewhere that part of the...

Do any of you have Children?

Temgirl, When I was little I used to do the same thing with my hair twist it and then put the ends of my hair from a braid or pony tail in my hair. I never pulled at the age of 5. I dont' think that is a sign of trich what your daughter is doing. I believe when I did it it was fun to feel my hair and also made me think how long my hair was when I could get the end of it in my mouth. I had never pulled any at this time.

Hey didi! I'm sorry you feel this way about the site. Just for that, I'll give you a hug. Doug sent out a message that says there's a hug competition going on, so maybe it'll encourage others to encourage people out there! Let's hope it happens! Toodles!

Hi, I have suffered from Trich for most of my life (I'm now 34)- I'm also a clinical depressive, have OCD (quite mild though) and now I suspect I also have an Autistic Spectrum disorder/ Aspergers!! I haven't got a formal diagnosis yet but I scored very highly in the AQ tests and the Aspie Quiz, and it makes sense of a lot of things in my life I have worried about. I am wondering if these things are somehow interlinked: Ie-...

Okay please don't get mad and post nasty comments or anything like that but I feel like this site is going down the drain latley. The support level on this site is going down. Giving people hugs not getting them back, writing journals and getting no comments, sending people messages and them not writing back. I mean come on when I first got on to this site, everybody was AMAZING, and I could ...

Does Trich pass of to your child? Will they automatically get it or is it something just random that hits people? I didn't get it until I was about 16 years old. Any responses would be great, I'd love to hear them. Thank YOU!

Hi, so I found this forum, I didn't even know there were support groups for this which is great. I live in oklahoma, and any websites I have visited seem to have support groups and centers in all states except mine, so I have never actually talked to anyone else that has this or know what it is like...ever. It sucks when it seems like you are the only person who has a disorder. I mean, binge ...

So I met this guy that is super nice and really likes me, but I've never dated anyone and I'm not sure what to do. I wear a wig and I don't know if I should tell him straight out that I do and why or if I should tell him part of the truth or just lie completely. I don't want it to affect the relationship that we're starting, but if I dont tell him he might find out when we hang out. I mean it'...

I have had this since i was 5 or so, now i'm 23 i pull still to this day but i have it under control. I feel like a drunk who says one is enough, I have big hair and play with it only. Well long enough to twist it. I enjoy every second of it for some reason. I have evolved in my picking where if i cut my hair now there would be no bald spots. My hair is long enough to pull but i hate to say i ...

I know we all get so down on ourselves when we have told ourselves we will NOT pull but then even against our best intentions we do. When that happens we say the hell with it and instead of stopping with the few we pulled we go on because we feel we have already failed. That has always been my catch in the past. But since finding out about Trich and searching the web high and low I ...

Just found this on the other site: "One of the most common problems we come across when we decide we are ready to become pull free, is what to do with our hands. It is important to try and establish an alternative behavior to replace those times we would normally sit and pull. So what can we do ? Well quite a lot actually. Sometimes the simplest of things work wonders. A lot of ...

How can i stop doing this when it's unconcience? I used to bite my nails bloody the same way. By the time i realised i was doing it i'd already finished 1 hand and well through the next. Same with pulling. By the time i realize i'm doing it i'm in the middle and there's this big pile of hairs.

Well the title says it all. I try and then when I pull I just feel worse because i feel like those '2' days of hardly pulling or catching myself pulling were for nothing. I have this all or nothing thinking I know. In my mind it's like "Why try if I just end up doing it and feeling worse?" I hate myself more and more for when I try and fail. There's so much shit going on in my life now...
