BED is affecting my work !!

yep, been there done that/ many hours wasted on b/p-ing instead of doing something productive. I actually found a way to use this fact to help my recovery. when i get the urge to b/p, I think, "you are going to waste another hour on this, you could be doing .....(fill in the blank) instead" and I come up with a productive activity. there are always things to do.

Thinner, I know what you mean about giving up responsibility for our addictions. Seems kind of odd ay? I don't think OA is for everybody......we just have to find out what works for us : ) I went to AA before and it just wasn't for me.

Laxative Abuse

I abusied laxatives for a long time and to this day I still want to take them. Its very hard. It has messed up my system to where I have issues if you know what I mean. I need to take them but if I do I cant stop. I was taking 2 laxs a day and 3 fiber pills and using maralax 3 times a day in my coffee or water. I even stole them one time at the store so I could have them and my fiance wouldnt know. He keeps a close eye on me. I have tried...

Wow that is exactly my situation. Last year I had a very bad experience to that effect. I didn't tell my advisor or professor, but I missed so much of one class that I had to get a note from the health center to excuse my absences for medical reasons. Unfortunately it was very apparent from the note, maybe because it was addressed from the counselling center or something, that it was a psychological illness. The professor of that class...

I totally understand where your coming from. I ate my salad for dinner, went running , then as soon as i came home i ran to the fridge and grabbed a peice of bagel and tried out this new cream cheese my dad bought. I knew it was wrong, and as i was doing it, i told myself to stop, but its like i can't. I hate, hating myself after, because i know i could have stopped it, but i didn't. I never do. I feel your pain!

I'm only 14, and I have the same problem. Believe me, you're not alone. It sucks because I'm supposed to be a NORMAL teenager---hanging out with friends...studying for tests...going to movies...etc... But instead, I'm stuck in my house eating.

I attend two different programs, OA for the spiritual aspects of the disease and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) . For me: Overeating started when I was a young child, around 11 or 12 yrs. old. I was left alone to babysit three younger sisters. Way too much responsibility. The sense of ABANDONMENT. My first and biggest trigger to overeat. This led to the need to CONTROL. My second big Trigger to overeat. When I have a feeling of not being in...

Wow, thanks for your replies! It is really great to have this kind of online support. Referring to what Diana 2008 said (thanks so much!), the end results of binging - perhaps looking umkept, bloated, out-of-it, sick, like you've been out all night partying - and the fact that most people don't know about BED or take it serviously, makes things very difficult. I had briefly considered telling my advisor or someone in my department,...

I know what you mean. In the prime of my weight loss, I was all happy and in good spirits. I was full of 'wonderful' advice that I was giving to others. I was also wondering why they couldn't do it...especially when I could. Now, that've I put five pounds back on...and struggling, I wonder why I don't listen to that 'wonderful' advice I was gave... It's the addiction. I remember one day just going to...

Hi All, So, not surprisingly, BED is affecting my work as a grad student. I've spent a total of probably 2 weeks since august locked in my apartment binging I could have spent that time reading or working but I chose not to. Inevitably it is affecting my ability to work as a grad student and I keep embarrassing myself by not showing up to class (that's happened twice) because I'm ...

FOOD ADDICTION IS A NEW CONCEPT TO ME. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT I JUST LACKED THE WILL POWER TO RESIST CERTAIN FOODS. AND I BLAMED MY OVER EATING ON MY PARENTS FOR MAKING US KIDS ALWAYS CLEAN UP OUR PLATES WHEN WE WERE KIDS. NO ONE WAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE ANY FOOD ON THE PLATE. IF IT MADE IT TO THE PLATE IT HAD TO BE EATEN. BUT I BELIEVE NOW THAT THERE ARE SOME FOODS, CHEESE AND SOME PROCESSED ...

Hello all, I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who wants a "binge buddy"....I don't know what to call it exactly. You know how alcoholics and workaholics have someone they have to call/check in with, to help them stay on track? That's what I mean. I think it would really help me (and you!)to have someone to "check in" with, whatever our goals are.... ...I find that if I have ...

Rather than going into nasty details, I'll just say this: After about a year and a half of abusing, I have now almost completely kicked the abuse, and have begun to function almost normally again. Email me if you have dealt with this problem and I'll let you know the various strategies I tried to get off of the laxatives, and what has finally ( knock on wood) worked. Best, ...

On November 20, I met with my nutritionist who, after looking at my blood sugar results was concerned about the possibility of my having Diabetes Mellitus. I have also been concerned as circulation in my hands seems as though it is slightly decreasing. More often than not, I am also thirsty. In the past, my bloodwork and urinalyses have been negative and DM is not in my immediate family....

just writing another message again, since my last one i've carried on badly, binging and shit but i've started to see a psychologist and he believes that all my problems relate to something else but what we don't know. Unfortuantly my next meeting is like in 3 weeks and i'm struggling to know what to do? Do i go back to weightwatchers to at least lose weight even though its ...

Hi Everyone. I have been out of the DailyStrength loop for quite some time now. I "thought" I had recovered from compulsive overeating and didn't need this anymore. Boy was I wrong.... I started my placement in August and have since gained over 25 pounds!!! I now weigh more than I ever did before and this is honestly my rock bottom. And I refuse to stay here and use food to hide from my...

Ok, so i have been considering attending an OA meeting, however I am under the impression that the structure of these meetings is based on " faith in God"? can you attend if you do not believe in god, or are the principles strictly built around faith ?
