What code reader for my 1995...
Published (2009-12-13 05:27:00)
For sure the guy the tried to check my car at Pep Boys was a moron. After his code reader failed to connect the first few times he said "Are you sure this is a 95 car?" I said "yes... I'm very sure". He looked at the sticker on the drivers door and said "Nooooo... Se here? This sticker says your car was built in 11/94. So your car is a 1994..." I didn't even argue with him. He...

Yes you have figured out that the 95's are bastards along with the 94's. Lucky me I have one of each. They have the OBDI computer with the OBDII plug. Someone told me the EPA or someone told the automakers had to be compliant by 1994. GM could not get it together for some reason and were given an exemption for 94-95. The 96 and newer cars have the OBDII plug AND ECM. I have not had much problem with my computers fortunately. The...

1997 Olds 88 3.8 no start
Published (2009-12-13 05:27:00)
Got in one morning and it started then cut off. I decided to replace the ICM. that did not solve the problem. Closer inspection revealed I had been sold the wrong ICM. Went back to O' Reilly's and they admited I was sold the wrong ICM. Got the correct ICM, new plugs since the old ones were washed out, and BINGO, it ran like a top........well for a week. Got in one morning, started and then it shut off. Tried two different ICM's,...

92 Olds 88 Coolant Leak+Smoke...
Published (2009-12-13 05:27:00)
your problem may be even simpler than the water pump. there is a plastic screw elbow that is notorious for breaking and leaking coolant located on the top of the block behind the alternator. i know i have the same engine in my 92' lesabre. good luck and let the faithfull know how you made out.

Must have missed a screw/nut/bolt. Never removed an 88 dash but many others. Some pivot on a stud at the sides and you need to tilt toward you from the top. Might just be a bolt still in place you hav'nt noticed yet. Ask a bud to take a look (girl or guy). Second set of eyes ya know. Good luck.

1995 might be the first year of OBDII. At any rate, all you should have to do is determine if the car has OBDI or OBDII diagnostics and plug in the appropriate code reader.

Welcome to the forums! We're pretty nice here generally... and are here to help each other out!
GM 3800s love water pumps! I would imagine that is your problem. There is a seep hole on the water pump housing where the shaft comes through. It gets old and worn, and starts to leak. If you drive it long enough that way, the water pump may seize up... so be careful.
You can check if the water...

It's not that hard of a job to do, just use margirine containers for your bolts and mark what they are for.
I would do the plugs, new TB gaskets, clean all sensors, new air filter, change the oil..
Do replace all upper/lower gaskets. Your gonna be digging right in there, you could easily do your valve cover gaskets if needed while doing the rest, which probably is not a bad idea, as you...

Installed the strut bar brace and it does feel better over the bumps.
Decided to get the aux fan and bigger front rotors, calipers and the
spindles. Maybe even thefront strutsand springs. My front brakes are
pulsing the springs feel floty at speed over ruff roads. Back feel fine and
are KYB's. Looking for Caddy core support braces too if he has any.
