Anybody else feel like I do?

I don't really pay much attention to commercials. Can't say that I remember seeing a Jeep commercial lately. But from your description, I'd say that they don't do much for me. But something I've noticed lately, to most people who have a newish Jeep, it's a "car." They don't have a clue about what they have. IMO Jeep and the safety industry have a lot to do with it. Jeeps now are lower, wider...

Genuine Gear brand gears
Published (2009-11-22 14:28:00)
As has already been said the best gears in the world will be junk if not setup right. I have not got the axle installed yet, but I put Genuine gears in my AMC 20. They patterned well in the final setup so I expect no problems. I have not seen anyone online say they could not get a good pattern with any of the common gear brands. I have heard that Dana gears tend to be more dead on with respect to pinion depth such that if using a pinion depth...

Saginaw steering box replacement

You will be able to do the same thing I did. Find yourself one of the "4 bolt" boxes off of 73-77 Malibu Monte Carlo Cutlass Supreme Grand Prix Regal They have always been "bolt ons" for the ones I've done. The only issue is the flare fittings for the hoses. You can change hoses or just buy flare to o-ring adapters. I'm not sure what year jeep went to o-rings but GM did it in 81. And last but not...

Snow in KC in the middle of November? This is the earliest I ever remember snow here and I ain’t talking about a dusting. There is probably an inch and a half on the Jeep so far. It was a cool summer and been a cold fall. BRING BACK GLOBAL WARMING!!!!

I had a 81 CJ7. On a good day I'd get 15 MPG. Was mine defective? Should I ask for a rebate?
And the 2.73 diffs sucked offroad.

Just a slight lifter tick? I can't say I can help you. It would seem to be a real oddity to have the oil not make it to the top end with that kinda pressure.
Are we sure the gauge is working properly?

I presume you mean that the tire is rubbing. That's typical - a stock-height TJ can't wear 31s without rubbing. You have several choices; lift the Jeep, adjust the steering stops on the axle to limit how far you can turn, or put on smaller tires.
Wait for one of the guys who have a TJ to confirm it, but I think you can get enough lift with spring spacers.

they have been fine for me so far....
What is more important is who installs them....the best set of gears are junk if installed wrong.

Do you miss the clock, or do you miss the OEM Jeep clock?
Me, I'd simpy scab an OEM Ford LED clock out of a mid 80's LDT II (or the like) and install it. They'll last longer and take less room up behind the dash.
But if you really, really, miss the OEM Jeep clock... reinstall it. Would you install an OEM tach as well?

if your looking for tires
Humm, if they couldn't find 'em in 9 years... I'd bet they gave up.
Hey Simplysmn... from you're profile you say you're self-employed. You don't happen to sell tires do you? It's always nice to have someone to go to for knowledge on such stuff.
I, for one, would like to hear a little more about the Run-Flat option ...

Carnell...getting tired of that carb are we? Now you know why I went with the SBC....
Short answer....No....and yes....
Intake is totally different and will not fit the head....but, the 4.0 head will fit on your block.....'depending' on what size bolts you have....
I had an 89 Cherokee that I picked up as a stolen recovery....blown engine...I had a spare 258 block...so I had the head...

The box on my '78 CJ is going to need replacement soon. My plan is to get a re-built from my local, VERY good, parts guy. I've rebuilt them myself in the past with mixed results; I really think it takes a couple of special tools. For a replacement, I've learned that a box from the same year Waggoneer will bolt in, with the possible exception of the pitman arm. The Waggie boxes have variable ...

The brass floats aren't lifetime either. They get thinner, I guess by corrosion, until they leak, by which time they're so thin that they won't solder. When that happened I looked for a replacement float, tried several ways to make one, and eventually wound up buying a new complete sending unit.
