HELP! 01 died while driving!...
Published (2009-11-19 03:15:00)
Well the $800 is for the timing belt replacement, new water pump etc. And a coolant flush and oil change (which they did not do because there was no compression after they replaced the timing belt) These costs were costs that I was going to incur as normal maintenance. However failure happened first. These costs will get transferred to the new (used) engine with just a bit of additional labor for doing it twice. I went this route because if...

It's possible that if the switch has plastic snaps/locks around the switch (looks like it would be easy to take apart), you may try removing the back cover of the switch and see if the bulb is internal. I know some of the Odyssey switches are made that way...but have never taken any of them apart. Although...I've done that on other vehicles with similar desiged switched.

Tranny Clunk on incline?

This clunk is normal as the strain on the parking pawl is removed. See a post a couple down by egads in this thread on how to park on an incline.

Leaking Oil Pan??
Published (2009-11-22 17:05:00)
well, a little more background info...... torquing the pan bolts did not stop the leak.... I cleaned the engine and have identified the source of the leak.....definitely the oil pan, which was a relief after reading all of the posts about the bearing seals leaking! I wanted to be absolutely certain before dropping the pan. Only leaks under pressure (engine running) only. I checked my oil level and it seems a little high.....just a tick over...

Leaking Oil Pan??

I wouldn't think slighty overfilled oil would cause excessive pressure. Gaskets get old and leak. I don't know how good the stop leak is good for your engine though.

Dash lights

I was able to locate the bulbs on the heated seat switch and the sunroof switch (which I've already replaced) but not on any of these three switches. Although my dealer told me that there is a replaceable light, I am beginning to think the entire switch needs to be replaced. Anybody else come across this problem?

Unfortunately, I now feel a mild but noticeable vibration in the seat, which is typically indicative of something in the rear of the vehicle. Any ideas are appreciated. On a side note,...

Welcome to the OdyClub.
Yeah. P0740 means you are nearing the end of your transmission. It should just be a conincidence that you got the code right after your 90K service but it will eventually come back.
Now, we are talking about electronics after all and there might have been a fluke but if it isn't a fluke, the death of that tranny is imminent and the question is not if but...

Not having the service manual in front of me, I doubt you would neeed to grease them often, if at all, but I am sure that someone with the service manual in front of them might correct me. As a point of reference, my last vehicle (VW Vanagon) didn't need greasing of the CV's even after 200,000 miles. As for the recomendations of different grease for inner and outer CV's, ...

I use 303 Aerospace protectant with Qtips to clean and lube this area. Once a year whenever I clean and lube all the weatherstipping. Eliminates all the sqeaks!

Are dash switch lights replaceable or do you have to replace the switch?
I have recently lost all lighting in the VSA, foglight, and subwoofer switches that are located in the panel on the drivers side of the dash. The dealer told me that there is a replacement bulb for each of these switches. The problem that I'm having is in finding were the bulbs are at in the switches. I have each ...

It might be a simple short in the radio. When you turn on the lights, they power the radio. When you turn on the radio (by inserting and turning the key), it powers the lights. Try disconnecting the radio connector and see if anything changes.

I would suggest it would be #2 on your list with the possibility of a bad connection at the power steering switch.

1999-'01 had 4-speed automatics which had problems and a high failure rate. Honda did offer extended warranty on these and replaced thousands of them. No real fix known, although external oil filters and coolers have been added by many owners in an attempt to make them live longer.
2002-'04 had 5-speed automatics which had different problems and still a high failure rate. No ...

Leave yourself 1.5 Hours just in case but I was able to complete the entire job in 45 minutes. I have to laugh because the Dealer wanted ~$450 (incl. parts) to do the job. That comes out to about $350 in labor. I am so PO'd at the dealer in Paramus, NJ that I will not purchase a new vehicle from them.
