When to replace timing belt?
Published (2009-10-31 18:33:00)
I do realize that I'll not be paying for labor if I replace the water pump & the tensioner now -- but, what are the odds that the these would fail over the next few years (given that the Ody currently has 36K miles & is 9 years old)? Also, what would happen if either of these fail? Would there be additional damage if the water pump or the tensioner fails (apart from the Ody just not functioning)? Am I looking at paying...

Priceless! It seems that every make and model has their, well, "issues" Not even Lexus is immune. On another forum I frequent, one member is a dealer tech, and oh, the stories he tells! They have (or had) an issue with premature transaxle death as well, so somebody pays $50K for a nice car/suv and 30K miles later BOOM goes the tranny! If you really want to find out about the quality of a car brand, take a dealer technician to a nice...

Good deal, only 5k on the belt. I would go for it unless you're up to replacing it yourself. I hear Autozone sells a rebuilt.

Yes, the brake light switch would cause both the no lights and the no shift.
Check the switch and the wires that are connecting to it. I think its the same switch for both.

New, unstretched belt may improve timing and subsequently power. It could be the butt dyno but it could be a legitimate improvement.
I did my timing belt/water pump but I also did spark plugs and a new battery. I definitely felt an improvement although the belt may be enough to feel one.

Okay, lately I've been searching for some HID kits. There is so many out there that it's pretty hard to choose from. People will trust a company if another, or few, person has them on their ride. So this is why I want to start this thread.

Just an update for LX owners
These are the correct pns for LX hinge/roller assy
Part # 72520-S0X-A03 (passenger side)
Part # 72560-S0X-A03 (driver's side)
I was able to remove and replace the hinge w/o removing the rail cover at all. Just by removing the 2 screws behind the tail light allowed enough flex on the cover to provide enough spaces to slide in/out the hinge ...
