Potential Existential Crisis
Published (2009-12-25 07:15:00)
Everything you named are very common obsessions and fears for those with pure-o. And I agree with everyone else, do not smoke weed. While it may give temporary relief it can make your thinking blurred and only make your ocd worse. Good luck

Harm OCD? - Page 2 - OCD Forums
Published (2009-12-25 23:48:00)
Harm o sucks! It hits me sometimes and when it does I hate it. I know what you mean by if you think attacking that you will feel better. This, of course, does not make sense because we do not want to do those things and we know the outcome would be horrible. I think of OCD with a weird analogy. Our brains are like Coke machines, and the sodas are our thoughts. Somebody comes along and buys a soda and it pops out. Gone. Sometimes the machine...

Yea I feel the same as you cortlea......I feel like mine is real and not ocd as well. That I don't love my wife and never did and all I can do is point to times in the past while we were dating and I had doubts or times when we were married and maybe didn't act so nice and I think well this must be real bc everyone else didn't have thoughts like me before they got married and doubt it and its like I'm consumed in my own...

Losinghope: That is EXACTLY what I am saying. Your brain is constantly being nagged to... therefore it is nagging you and telling you that something is wrong. To a degree, this just kind of FEELS right, doesn't it?

Thank you! I kind of know these things, but I do have to be reminded from time to time. It is indeed the need for certainty that feeds my anxiety.

Im really glad I came across this! Im feeling exactly the same Cortlea! And the first point J.L. made makes sense! It seems like your getting better but it feels like something isnt right because your mind has been so used to these horrible thoughts! I think its just because you are getting back to feeling normal again!

It is very common for thoughts to change and for them to focus on those you love the most. OCD is a slippery slope and it almost always falls to what you cherish and protect the most. I hope you get some relief.

It helps me to think of dealing with OCD as a marathon where there are good miles and bad miles but we keep pushing on.

POCD is having the thought, knowing it is wrong, getting anxiety from it, then ruminating about whether or not you are a pedophile.
I would assume pedophiles somehow justify their thoughts, and then ACT on them without much if any regret.

dont worry about the erections, u have subconsciously trained your body to do this. i have been experiencing those feelings too when having ocd thoughts and i dont want to go near my children coz it freaks me out. the thoughts about harming your son r just thoughts and although u werent distressed by them doesnt mean u would act on them. it is ironic that ocd sufferers feel distressed about not ...

hey frosty and welcome to SIAD.
Often stressful situations can cause an increase in our ocd symptoms because we have an anxiety based disorder. As a rule of thumb my therapist told me to always try to do the anti-obsessional thing with regards to ocd. So, if you are feeling the compulsion to count ideally you should resist any counting but if that is too hard at first try foxing your ocd by...

Hehe I love thinking outside of the box, truth is there is no box.
No i never wore braces (in you mouth you mean right ?)
I personally don't really look at it as a disease, more like an inconvenience/handicap that makes life more difficult/interesting.

you need to remember these are just thoughts. you need to keep tricking your ocd until you get bored of the thoughts. everytime the thoughts come, accept them, tell them so what, maybe i did cheat but whats done is done and i will have to accept the fact that i will never be 100% certain because no one can be 100% certain about anything. acceptance does not mean you are giving into your ocd or ...

So I am reading the book Overcoming Obsessive Thoughts (Purdon/Clark) and all is going well. Yes, I was in an anxious suggestible state where just about anything can spike, kind of like being hypnotized by fear if you will. Nevertheless, I was finding the book quite useful. After all, I have had it for about a year and finally decided to do some of the exercises it recommended. All was well ...

Love the frontal lobe comment. The only advice or suggestion I have is to GO AGAINST your urge...if you are afraid to smile, make a point to smile...etc. Just don't blind her with those Christmas lights!!!
