Then you could start with something like "MAYBE I'll sell my soul to Satan", and go from there.
this theme is easy to do ERP(exposure response prevention; an area of CBT to tackle OCD) for, but I'm afraid it does mean facing the thought head on and running towards it. the same for molestation obsessions,
sexual obsessions, harming obsessions, etc, etc.

I'm cleaning out my closet and I'm sure people on here could benefit more from my books than my local library. If you live in the states, and you want one of these books below, let me know. I don't mind shipping it. It's a gift for the holidays.

Howdy. I came across a webpage the other day that said a CBT technique that is used for ocd is the following: " •Thought-stopping: You learn to stop
unwanted thoughts and focus attention on relieving anxiety."
I wrote to the website and suggested this is not how one should try and deal with ocd. Thought stopping is trying to supress/block the thoughts, which will just make them come back ...

behaviour therapy).
it's different to 'talking therapies' such as psychoanalysis, as in it is not so hell-bent on getting to the source of a persons condition, but rather concentrates on how to change the persons dysfunctional thinking/behaviour as it is when the patient seeks help.
I.e. it doesn't matter what set off a persons anxiety or depression, its what they actually do ...

It can be problematic trying to do
ERP by yourself as there is a lot of subtle nuances to the therapy that only an experienced clinician understands. So guidance from a good therapist is ideal.
However, there are apparently very good books available for people that want to undertake self-therapy.
I don't know these books and so am afraid I can't recommend any; but if you post that ...

I was told by my psych that CBT can give you up to 80% relief of symptoms, this dosent sound amazing but when you think that you'll deal with stuff differently your
obsessions wont mean half as much so in effect you may feel 100%.
