If you are disassembling the laptop, and cleaning the processor and heatsink Arctic Silver 5 is the name of the thermal paste. Apply as directed. Too much is as bad as too little or none. If you are not going to disassemble now, get a can of canned air and blow out the fan areas. Wipe of any surface dust on the fan covers first so you dont blow that inside the laptop. Isolate the fan blade with the end of a paper clip to keep them from over...

I think that my notebook is more than able to run W7, because one of my friends has got almost the same model ( 250gb hard drive, AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 cpu ) and his results are fine. CPU-Z and everest show frequency 800mhz instead of 1995mhz ( multiplier 4x ) so something is definetelly wrong.. I've done all of the updates so far..

You should be able to negotiate with Toshiba for replacement disks, worthy of a small investment and not taking the chance of downloading some bad stuffs.

Last thing I would try is replacing the CMOS battery. A long shot. And after that I would write the comp off.
Hopefully someone else has more ideas.

Satellite A210-16G - CPU and memory frequency problem
Hey guys,
I've had a problem with my notebook that I can't solve, since I've installed windows 7 RTM x64 version.
I've noticed that something's wrong after finding out that my Windows Experience Index has dropped to 2.7 instead of 4.5, I used to have on Vista. For those ...

Your best bet is to run some sort of system device review (Belarc Home Version per example), jot down the devices manufacturers and try to pick them up from different sources on the net.
You can always try W7 1st and let it detect and install the appropriate drivers for what it can find on your system.
