Sweet. I was beginning to wonder if Dell was gonna quit on the Precision series as well. Time for me to see what this baby looks like. I'm sure I won't like it.

If they have the parts they will fix it
If it is damaged beyond
economical repair they will replace it
If they replace it most likely you would get a M6400.

Just read in http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=3 00199
that this notebook has 1 PCMCIA slot (right) and 1
expresscard/54 slot (left). It is not mentioned if the expresscard slot is USB emulated or PCIe 1x.

Notebook speakers are "poor", per definition! Should you need better sound, get a good headset or a good pair of external speakers!
But yes, you can replace them if you want. Plenty of guides on the net as how to swap/replace internal speakers.

I would not
upgrade CPU or RAM. 4GB's is enough for most. CPU's are expensive. I would buy a larger HDD 320GB or 500GB @7200. Cost is reasonable.
There was a way to upgrade to 64 thru M$ for like $10 in the past look into it. If you want W7 then sure get it in 64bit.

It may well be fried, Power and data come through specific pins, if you applied power along the wrong lines it could kill the drive, or blue a
thermal fuse on the motherboard.

Nice going. It is
definitively one of the rarest moment of good support from Dell.
