Winter Trapping Muskrats
Published (2009-12-17 22:29:00)
Find the huts. Cut into the hut (tile spade or old hay saw work great). Feel around for the tunnel leading down into the water. I always tried to place the trap right where the water started. I always ran 3-4 feet of wire off the end of the trap chains. A piece of lathe for a stake stuck into the outside of the hut and your good to go. Make SURE you plug your hole up well or else the hut will freeze up rendering it useless to you and the...

Two weeks ago we talked to a fur buyer in Downer, MN and let me sum it up in one word, 'sunofabich' If I was you, treat trapping like hunting - chances are you're not going to make any money - Fox - 5$, Coon - 5$ and big ones only - Mink- 5$ Beaver - 8 to 10 $ for the blankets...A sad day indeed. These prices were hides in the round so add a couple bucks for skinned hides and since I don't flesh and dry I didn't ask....

snaring is one of those things that you need someone to show you the ropes as far as where to set etc. take a look at the NAFTA manual in the snaring part. http://www.ndfhta.com/adobe/fur_manual.pdf xdeano

Trapping Coyotes!!!!
Published (2009-12-17 13:20:00)
Can anyone give me some tips on diggers. I caught two fox, three cats, and a grinner off this nine set line last year in two days.......I have had six traps disturbed (dirt and pan cover brushed off the trap leaving it exposed). Same techniques as last year. I use mainly baited dirt holes. Traps have been dyed and waxed, Dirt has been stored in covered 5 gal. buckets (peat moss mixed with rabbit droppings). I use different sets of gloves for...

IR trail camera suggestions

Hmmm, yeah it says it takes day and night video, but for some reason mine won't take video at night. It takes pics at night fine though. Anyone with an I40: Is there another setting that I need to get video at night? Or is my camera just not functioning properly??? I wouldn't be surprised if it's operator error!

I talked to a buyer earlier this week who was saying $3 on muskrats and $12-$14 on yotes if they had real nice pelts...both on the round.

In my experience the flash doesn't seem to bother critters. The sound of the camera cycling however does in some cases. I like the I40 moultries. Never had a problem although their latest run (2008 and newer) are sounding like lemons. The Scoutguard 550 is getting RAVE reviews. I plan on trying them out next year. Both run around the $200 mark.

Fox, 'yotes, beaver?...I've only snared beaver under the ice and can tell you without any b.s. the best beaver snaring book on the market is "Beaver Snaring" by Trapper Art Simmerman (sp) Buy it, read it, read it again and you're set to go. Fox, 'yotes and coon? I've no idea. Good Luck
