In what sense? This is focussed on online identity management and, if it were to take off - and that's a big if in my opinion (as there's little incentive for those verifying relationships) - I would see the government as a potential verifier of a relationship rather than a relying party. Also, this is attempting to establish a legal framework around federated trust relationships which is a very significant undertaking, particularly...

Dear Guest, 'Wrong sorry'? Does ANPR know who is in the car? yes or no. We know this can be established most times later by enquiry but that is not ANPR. So it doesn't track people and that is correct; nothing 'wrong' about it. Does it track vehicles? Or does it merely record vehicles passing a certain point? Yes or no? Well you can call that 'tracking' but surveillance officers would be back on the beat if...

Quote: What right does the state have to tell a mother how she disciplines her children? Generally, the state does not have any right to dictate to parents how they should discipline their own children. The only exception would occur if a parent used what is now legally considered to be beyond "reasonable chastisement", e.g. by striking a child in such a way as to leave bruises etc. Quote: Why was she trailed by unmarked...

"Big Brother Watch" is for all intents and purposes a wholly owned subsidiary of the Taxpayers' Alliance, and Alex Deane's record at the Conservatives (he used to be Cameron's chief of staff) is hardly conducive to civil liberties if his ConHome columns are anything to go by. What was that saying about devils and long spoons?

From 1939 until the early 1950s food ratoning provided the "parasitic vitality" that kept the wartime ID card scheme alive. ID cards had to be presented to get ration cards.
Could " carbon rationing" provide the parasitic vitality for a new ID card scheme?

-sigh- they keep raiding that age. Soon it will be "if you look under 97". It's not Tesco's fault - they are in fear of being caught out in one of the numerous "sting" operations that are carried out. It is not suprising that they will err on the side of caution.

Sean Tipton is completely misinformed. Expats will not be "entitled" to apply for UK ID cards.
From the Home Office's point of view, the whole point of the scheme is to build up a database of everyone living in the UK. It isn't remotely interested in gumming up its "clean database" with details of expats living in other countries. _________________ Andrew Watson

Every single one of these alleged ID cards is, of course. clearly labelled "Residence Permit" on its face:
