Harman Karman Drive + Play?
Published (2009-11-30 02:55:00)
The Harman Kardon Drive and Play is obnoxious...I hate the controller for it...and the separate screen on the dash. Most aftermarket decks now-a-days have USB inputs on them (even the $99 "base models"). You would benefit more from going that route (better sound quality, cleaner looking install, iPod compatible, etc...)

I don't know how other 1st gen X owners rate their stock sound system, but I'm disgusted with mine. The bass frequency range is very strange, and I have to adjust the bass whenever I put in a different CD or change the station. The basic rule of thumb (at least for Home Theater applications) would be to upgrade the receiver first, then the speakers. Does the Rockford Fosgate 6 disc unit yield any better sound or am I better off...

Harman Karman Drive + Play?
Published (2009-11-29 23:47:00)
I'm looking for something to use to be able to play my iPhone in the car with me while I drive. Obviously I can get a new stereo installed but rather not spend the cash for that. I don't want to go the FM transmitter route. The Harman Kardon plug and play sounds like a good fix but I have some issues: can I place the iPhone wire anywhere? I have read a lot of people stick it in their glovebox, but this wouldn't give me access to...

I just put a new headunit and speakers in my 2000 and I can honestly say that it all needs to be replaced. However, I would do the speakers first. I bought a nice aftermarket headunit and it trashed the stock speakers in only a few weeks. The stock speakers are rated for 20w each, just fyi. Honestly tho, I think you will be fine either way as long as you plan on doing both within a reasonable amount of time. If you need any help at all with...

I have a 12" jl W3. I have an alpine headunit but it also puts out to the speakers as well. I have tuned my amp so its not overpowering but still enough for my taste. Great buy for the money.

How much is the HKPP going for nowdays? I'd lean towards just replacing the head unit with one that has iPod/iPhone integration built in, some are pretty cheap. If you don't have any experience installing stuff certainly leave it to the pros. You don't want to tear your dash up or blow a bunch of fuses, also if they damage it, they pay for it. So take pictures before the install and after. I have an aux port stock in mine and...

my suggestion would be Boston Acoustics...you can find good prices on Crutchfield...i had a 10 in the trunk and for me it wasnt enough...a 12 is perfect...just have to tune it the way you want it and it'll be perfect for you

it should be the only wire hooked up to the parking brake... i have never looked at it to tell you for sure.... on a side note i would go ahead and wire in a switch just cause it is easier and one day the dvd while moving might be a godsend if you are on a long trip with kids...

Not so sure that an aftermarket source unit will work with the Rockford Fosgate amp up under the dash. That little amp is more than a simple 4-channel amp and I'm pretty sure there's multiple inputs on that amp that tie to the factory source unit.

Hey guys .. i bouught me a new JVC head unit for me 1st gen X from Crutchfield. As I went to go splice up the wires to the harness kit .. it seems that the black ground wire coming from the unit itself didn't have a ground wire to connect to on the harness that they gave me. So I called up and asked and they said that the black ground wire was to be mounted to a screw connected to the ...

Looks like a good head unit. Pioneer is generally a good brand. They have a good reputation and I haven't heard any complaints. About the installation...assuming you have a double din size stereo in your 04 X (thats what I have in mine), you will need a mounting sleeve to "downsize" the slot to single din to fit the new head unit. I think they have those at Best Buy (however be careful ...
