When will breeders listen?

Sorry a bit of a rant here. I'm more than a bit frustrated at being told "what riders want in a horse and that they will only breed what they think is best." But they will not listen to what the riders really want. I'm talking about the NZ Appaloosa breeding scene. It's a registry that is suffering and dwindling in member numbers and they're wondering WHY! The breeders are so busy squabbling and flinging...

I agree with you entirely. As you know we want a finished product, not a show pony on the end of a bit of rope, they HAVE to be able to do a job. Frances and I are ALWAYS arguing with these showing folk, that unless a Shetland ( for example) has a really, REALLY good temperament it's no use to man nor beast. but they keep harping on about conformation being the ONLY thing that is important. Ask yourself where most Shetlands end up? In the...

HI Ya, Wasn't sure however found this on www.horsedata.co.uk Polish Warmblood (Wielkopolski): Polish foals born in a national stud farm have a numerical brand under the saddle: The right side is the number of stud farm. The left side is the foal's number. Foals from private breeders (regional breeding) are branded on the left leg (thigh). Okregowy Zwiazek...

I have a fell pony who can carry the weight you mention, and possibly the height would be fine but I'm not certain. He is just over 14hh,and built like a tank. The tallest rider he has had was around 5'10" and she said she felt fine on him as he's so wide he takes up the leg well, but I'm not sure if 6ft would be pushing it on anything of 14hh?? Depends on how the height is distributed I guess,if ...

Anyone got one? Any photos? I know pretty much nothing about the breed except that i took a very cheeky 4 year old for a walk in some woods on Sunday! He belongs to a lady i may be doing a pony share with (but that's another story) so at that point i only knew his name and that he's a he! Off we go pootling down the lane when a very posh couple in an even more posh car stopped to admire ...
