That might just be a good idea from the sites the OP is going to order from anyway you could get a: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition http://www.ebuyer.com/product/164047 Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P...

I really don't think so, but if you really want confirmation, download OCCT and let it run for a while, that should be an excellent way to see where the voltages are.

From my experience ATI has had slightly better drivers since the 3000 series. But I haven't used any of their drivers since my 9600GT so I'm not in a position to comment about their newer driver revisions. I can tell you I have never had the problems you described with ATI Catalyst. Just make sure you uninstall the new drivers first before installing your graphics card.

Quote - (hdood @ Nov 12 2009, 09:53) Applications don't have to support it (it's transparent), but the OS does (which it doesn't). I think APPs do need to support it if you want to go over 2GB of RAM in a single APP in a 32 bit environment.

Fan speed killing me
Published (2009-11-13 19:43:00)
I'm going to guess it's the CPU fan (since you haven't said specifically where the fan is) What size fan? Is it connected via Molex/3 pin/4 pin connector? If it's a fan that doesn't support PWM it's only going to run at one speed... MAX speed, won't matter what software you use.

I would first start by taking the GPU if that is what the post boot peeps are suggesting, pop in another card if you have one. If you mobo has VGA out remove your GPU and try the onboard VGA out to see if the beeps remain. Please reply with your findings.

Apparently, the M400 can be upgraded as the CPU is not soldered. http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Tosh...table t-pc-3.htm

anyways ... all my pc's are very tidy (most are quite compact aswell so clean wiring almost is required ..aka my mITX machines); any visual wiring is to an absolute minimum; I actually spent quite a bit of time routing all the cables/wires in places so they are not noticed, and buying/soldering/customizing wires to be exactly the right length. Not only does it improve airflow; it looks ...

RAM- Kingston... well... it sucks. OCZ, Corsair, Mushkin and G.Skill are what I use. Never had problem one. HDD- I would buy a Western Digital 640 Black edition or the 1TB drive. PSU- I've never heard of the brand, but I'd stick to more popular choices- PC P&C, Seasonic, Antec, OCZ, Corsair. The case- I don't know what a "Midi ATX" case is, but if they meant mini ATX, the MB will ...

^ LMAO. If this is not a hoax, your in for a suprise. Aussielloydfan is the one who posted about this pc weeks ago saying its giving him problems and he's gonna try to sell it so he can basically pawn it off on someone else. Then he bought a new one. All of us regulars who posted in the thread / lurked will know what im talking about. Ill see if I can find it.

I'm looking into a completely new build for 2010. I fell out of the scene and lost track of all the names of what's good / bad and why and all that nonsense. Researching on my own either gets me to old reviews of old hardware or me drooling trying to make heads or tails of anything. So I'm looking to the peoples of Neowin to help me get a new computer. What are your other components / ...

well IMO the best place to have a pc custom built is in your own home. build it yourself. you can pick the parts you want in it. you know exactly who makes the parts you want, Going through newegg.com is the place to get the parts. I will never buy a pc from any vendor, their warranties suck. you need to shell out extra $$$$$ for a warranty longer than a year Now as far as local pc shops ...

When the game crashes does the system crash too? Are you using onboard sound? Where do the colored blocks usually appear and what color are they? Have you tried without the overclock? Also, what PSU are you using?

I noticed a huge difference in sound quality with music and games when I added a SB X-Fi Platinum. Some will say OBS is "good enough", but for us who demand more, a quality discrete card is the way to go. If you use ear cans, the difference is even more prominent.

Don't get the nVidia card. No DX11 support. If you get one or two of them now, you'll regret it. You'll have to upgrade the card sooner than the rest of the system. If you're an nVidia fan, buy a cheap card for now and get their DX11 card when it comes out. Or get the ATI 5800 series cards and get DX11 right now. It's supposed to be a really good card - THG ....
