quote Well I open cmd and type in chkdsk /f and it said something about not being able to run because another process is using the volume (I would have done this thru command prompt on start up but I get a blue screen it can get that far if I try that route). So it says would you like to schedule it for when it restarts so I hit yes and it runs. I assume this is right? correct. quote No I haven't tried installing an updated version of...

Were you messing around with your BIOS and made any changes? This sounds like the second core on your CPU isn't responding to the allowed time. Maybe rebooting your system should fix this problem. Also, if you played around with the BIOS, to reset it to default, then reboot.

Hi guys, I've recently purchased a new keyboard, which has a lot of nice media features. One minor annoyance is that I have the three lights there, numlock, caps lock and the third is F mode , which allows me to program my Function keys to do specific tasks, much like on a laptop. If it's off, it will function like the default F1-F12. My F-mode is off by default when I log into Windows. This is controlled by the key...

Chrome OS

It might have to run on specific hardware. From what I can tell, the hardware side of things isn't going to have a CPU, RAM, Graphics Card or anything. It's basically going to be a laptop without any internals except for a small hard drive and battery with wifi and maybe ethernet. The way it's going to run is by having a server host the hardware and OS while it is connected to the internet. That said, if the hardware is, like...

Installing win98 on a partition should be fine. I've found that using Virtual PC or similar programs has its limitations.

For the first problem, you need display drivers. Find out the model of your video card and download the drivers for it. On that note I think Vista/W7 sometimes asks you if you want to download drivers if it detects you don't have them installed. As for the next problem, I had a slightly similar problem except mine didn't restart - at what point does it restart?

your programs should have made some backups of the changes. see if you can restore those entries. and to be honest, you dont really need the security center. its just a waste of system resources. for instance, my computer, an XP as well, uses no anti virus, no firewall, and no active spyware protection, as well as having all protective services disabled. the only form of protection i have is ...

Run a virus and spyware scan. Then install a free anti-virus like Avast or AVG. Also, install Spybot to have something to protect you against spyware.

It sounds like it would be good for beginners, casual users, and those who almost only use the computer for internet. Does not sound like something I want.

apparently macs are better suited to digital media applications, but personally, i dont think paying an extra grand for a mac is worth it. for the ame money, you can build a computer that will rape a mac to death using windows.

The file is being used and locked by the OS. You can't do it when it's loaded in windows. You will need to boot up in command line mode and then edit that file.

32 bit programs can run on 64 bit operating systems. 32 bit drivers cannot, but applications can. Have you tried the built-in compatibility options? You can set them in the Properties window of the program's .exe file.
