Thanks David. I don't think he's ready for full blown wading and fly fishing. I may have to teach him to use an open faced reel, so I think when I'm fishing with him we'll stick to dry land, still water, and single hook lures!

Yes , guilty as charged. I have a decal on my Jeep that says spey bum..... Wish I lived in the PNW but .... I fish a spey rod (dec hogan echo 4wt. With loop reel scientific anglers skandi compact) for trout. It is a swinger's dream baby, yeah! Also have an 8wt, that has seen action. Tube flies, and some really bright stuff on the bench as a result of these rods! It is a magic fishing style.

Ditto on McGuane. If you want a great collection of memorable fishing essays, his "The Longest Silence" is a wonderfully written book that spans decades and continents.
