Thanks - Cougar skull. Good to know and can probably win a few bar bets with that tid-bit. As for "poisonous" you are indeed correct. Been a while since fifth grade for me, but my wife substitute teaches - I'll share with her. In the same vein, to date no one has "died from swine flu, aka H1N1". All the deaths have been attributed to secondary infections that set in as a result. But all that aside,...

Thanks David. I don't think he's ready for full blown wading and fly fishing. I may have to teach him to use an open faced reel, so I think when I'm fishing with him we'll stick to dry land, still water, and single hook lures!

Anyone else a spey addict?
Published (2009-11-29 00:55:00)
Yes , guilty as charged. I have a decal on my Jeep that says spey bum..... Wish I lived in the PNW but .... I fish a spey rod (dec hogan echo 4wt. With loop reel scientific anglers skandi compact) for trout. It is a swinger's dream baby, yeah! Also have an 8wt, that has seen action. Tube flies, and some really bright stuff on the bench as a result of these rods! It is a magic fishing style.

Ditto on McGuane. If you want a great collection of memorable fishing essays, his "The Longest Silence" is a wonderfully written book that spans decades and continents.

The Chris Scalley method: Streamer stripper line on a 7 wt. with a 4' leader tapered to 2x and an electric bugger or some other flashy tick-'em-off streamer stripped right over gravel bars. Works like a charm! __________________ David Cannon www.CannonOutdoors.com CannonOutdoors.blogspot.com...

It can be good from shore near the dam, yes. You're likely to at least get into a few spots and/or smallies up there. It'll be tough with the fly rod because of back-casting room being limited. You may want to consider renting a boat. You should be able to talk the marinas down in rental price since it's colder. As to your friend not having waders, I believe Unicoi Outfitters in Blue Ridge ...

There isn't parking at Silers. It is about a 5 mile hike from the Clingmans Dome parking area. The road to Clingmans Dome closes on Nov. 30. This time of year it is a long hike down to Hazel from anywhere near the top of the park. Try this website-www.cs.utk.edu/~dunigan/gsmnp/mrsid.php. You'll have to copy/ paste it. It is a clickable trail map of the Smokies. It has some cool features. I use ...

The Chattooga River outside Clayton on the SC border has stocked brookies. Several other creeks do to, but they remain unnamed to protect the innocent..... In Western NC, the Smokies have brookies as well as Cherokee and Dillsboro. More will chimme in.
