Sounds like solenoid A is definitely toast then. 3 ohms is way low, that thing will pull nearly 5 amps at normal running engine voltage. And the fact that it's too high resistance when cold makes me even more suspicious. The driver chips used in the 97+ TCU (Sanken SI-5154s) are only rated for 2.5 amps absolute max, and will go into overcurrent protection mode (and *should* throw a CEL with a related transmission code, if the TCU...

Steering gear & DW ? (long)

That is a LOT of caster. Don't have a spec sheet in front of me but that seems too much, I'd like about 6 degrees. Also did you type that right, they set it to toed out? That's not good.

Mat sensor??? - Page 2 - NAXJA...
Published (2009-11-07 17:29:00)
Yes the MAT will cause all kinds of problems. The basic operating principle of fuel-injection is that the computer determines how much air is entering the system and then controls fuel delivery to match (driver only controls air delivery through throttle body, computer does the rest). In order to determine proper amount of fuel, the computer first needs to know how much air is going into the combustion chamber--it already knows volume...

Getting very frustrated!!!!
Published (2009-11-08 13:58:00)
I'm chasing a similar gremlin now..... kinda. Mine got to a point as to it would start at random. Once when that happened, I had a spark tester on one of the plugs and noticed I was getting no fire. My problem in that case just happen to be the shielded wire running in the loom (plastic loom protector was missing) from the firewall to the front of the engine down to the Knock Sensor. The wire was shorting on the top of the head, at the...

If you look at the little spot of light above the pinion, behind the left tire, you can see the spring leaves spreading. Try some leaf clamps first. I'll bet the steel strap bands are gone. I got six, three on each side (two in front, one behind, although yours seems to need them behind for acceleration), and no more clunk after braking. I tightened them enough to let the leaves slide, tight enough to keep them in place. A little LockTite...

Preventative maintenance?
Published (2009-11-06 12:28:00)
Don't replace sensors that aren't broke. They shouldn't wear out. A possible exception to this is the O2 sensors, but I'd run 'em until you get an error code.

Whistling problem when cold?
Published (2009-11-08 18:58:00)
If you can re-create this at idle, you should be able to find it. Pop the hood and fine tune your ear! Kick in the throttle by hand or have a buddy do it. Sometimes a mechanics stethoscope helps isolate noises.

Got another bad solenoid? Doesn't seem likely since both solenoids are on for 1st gear.

It's tricky but can be done. The rod bearings are cake. The mains however- there are very sharp edges on the corner of the block, and you'll have to roll the bearings in and out. If you cut it too close and shave any of the bearing material from the backside of the mains they won't seat properly and can chatter and fret.
You can gain some clearance by dropping the trans and letting ...

Hallo. It's a '96?
Maybe it needs time to build up fuel pressure because there is a leaking valve in the fuelpump.
Test the fuel pressure with a gauge.

I'm not sure, but after a certain year they are completely incompatible - the later grand cherokees use the PCI bus for BCM/ECU/TCU/OHC communication instead of the older CCD bus. I do know that a ZJ OHC ( overhead console) module I pulled a while ago said something like "XJ (black) ZJ (red)" on the casing so I am pretty sure the difference is the color of the connector and the firmware on the ...

Hallo. There is a clutch pedal switch like a NSS at the top of the pedal.
But there is also a mechanical reverse switch on the shift fork on the side of the manual trans.

Looking at the diagrams in this link - http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...d.php?t=883 824 - you will see the display module on the left side of the diagram. The input wires are each numbered 1 - 12. Here is how the wires/numbers correspond to the actual plug. Note the open locations and that there are no pins or wires in these positions.
Pin #1 is black wire. Pin #2 is pink...

Trying to run down a high idle issue.
My MAT sensor is dead ...no ohms even when put in boiling water to test.
Will that cause my high idle problem?
No vacuum leaks ...verified by smoke test.
TPS is within specs.
Coolant sensor is within specs.
Map sensor is good.
Haven't done the O2 sensor yet.

My jeep: 97, 4.0 / AX-15 / 200,300 miles.
People find it hard to believe, but im getting way better gas mileage than what Jeep advertised it at, and better than most other stock XJ owners get.
I live in Virginia but still go back to my "home" in Connecticut very often, so I make the 550 mile drive up 95 in my cherokee. I put 18 gallons in it, and routinely get 25mpg on these ...

Pics work. Looks to me like it's coming out somewhere around the distributor or like you said, the right angle fitting for the oil pressure sender. Good plan on the brake cleaner though I would use simple green and a pressure washer or garden hose - I don't think there are any really sensitive senders or wiring along that section of the block, just keep it away from the valve cover, ...

93 will be an HO I believe, unless someone swapped the motor.
a stock 4.0 auto is going to have 3.55 gears unless it had the towing package, in which case it might have 3.07 (not sure, others will know way more than me on that.)

Auto or manual trans?
What is your idle--700-750, auto fully warmed up and in DRIVE.
