Quote: Showgoers at Los Angeles Staples Center will get a good look at three high-efficiency models from BMW, when the 2009 L.A. Auto Show opens, next week. Though first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show, in September, it will be the first North American showing of the ActiveHybrid X6, ActiveHybrid 7 and EfficientDynamics concept car, all collectively pointing to the various strategies the German maker will use, in the coming years, to cope...

If they can do even 40 MPG they will top the range and earn the respect that GM needs. Though I would think that a CVT would be more efficient than a 6AT. Anywho, GM has always put excess power in their Cavalier/Cobalt. Today's base Cobalt has 155 HP. I would offer a 150ish HP option and of course an SS model. However, a slow, efficient 1.4L Turbo to the tune of 115-120 HP would certainly frustrate the oil companies to a degree.

It's not just cars either. If I were Briggs & Stratton or Tecumseh or Husqvarna or the like, I'd be checking into bringing in electrical engineers and starting to draw down resources on the internal combustion side of the business.

Damn, that really sucks. There was so much potential with Koebugsegg as the buyer. Sad day.
Edit: Thinking more about it, will Geely now back out of Volvo and go after a less expensive Saab? Will the Swedish government now put the money into Volvo? Will Saab disappear? Potentially, a lot of interestings things could happen with this news.
