you can drive around just fine without the front subframe until you find a used one.

Sounds like the dreaded strut clunk. You are probably going to need to take your struts apart and regrease them or consider upgrading to Dspecs. Here is a link for a how to: Regreasing STi struts If you want to upgrade: TiC Tok suspension package - Turn In Concepts However, the strut cluck is just one possible culprit (and usually starts in the rear end). So I would also check your bushings and other various parts (i.e. ball joint, control...

Wow, that's really ugly. You'd best bust out the drill and an EZout. If that doesn't do it I'd say replace that ball of rust with something made out of metal.

JDM STi V8 Takeoff review?
Published (2009-11-13 20:20:00)
I've been on sti take offs for like 4 years now and have no real complaints. Handles well enough over pretty much everything. I cut the front bumpstops and upgraded to newer inserts out of a 06, and it rides much better than the 04 stuff. As far as I know 04 usdm and v8 spec c suspension is identical.

Ok I figured out the scraping sound while crawling along was my rear pad that had worn pretty low... and strangely a lip of the pad overhands the rotor and this paper thin lip of pad material hooked over the edge of the rotor. Switching to new pads made the scrape go away... to be replaced by "not yet mated" humming of the new pad to old rotor. I shook the wheels again trying to discern bearing play and couldn't. If I...

The parking break is inside the the rear rotors right. Did you make sure you readjusted them. Should be a little hole in the rotor were you can put a screw driver in and click it back,

Checking with Kartboy now. I know he has the bolt pattern programmed into the CNC, and I know he has the equipment to do it.

this is a much needed product, currently there are no 09 specific springs on the market. springs geared toward the 08 are much too soft, STi springs unfortunately have fitment issues.
I'd very surprised if there wasn't some real interest in this. I'd sign up if I wasn't running D Stock this year.

It's not really a problem. Dive and lift are the result of weight transfer to the appropriate wheels for the task.
Stiffer springs will reduce it, but that just allows stickier tires (which would overwhelm the stock suspension if you're driving hard).

Does it still behave that way when the car is off?

Huh, never seen that before. I would guess it was just a material flaw that finally let go. Just a guess, though.

go with cheap napa/advanceauto/autozone blank rotors. they'll run you about $120-150 for all 4. as for pads, i recommend stoptech centric posiquiet pads: http://knsbrakes.com/productDetails....923&car_id= 782

there are so many variables here that it would be impossible to determine what YOU will like and what YOU will be happier with
without experimentation
and you are pissing in the wind as well by throwing WAY too much at too little of an issue

It was not night and day chagne, but I could tell something was better. The car was tighter. The one thing I did notice is from the factory the rear subframe was no where near aligned to the body. Basically the holes where the lock boltes go through were not lined up with the chassis. I was miffed, and not sure if it was my car ...
They're supposed to keep the subframe from moving on ...
