RAM upgrade in Los Angeles

guess it depends on whether or not you want OSX, if you do you have no choice it must be the 10v, but if you dont, you can get the Mini 10 with ubuntu on it and opt for the 2gb, you can also get the (HD screen,Bluetooth,TV tuner..all of which are not available with the 10v)..and when you get it just reformat the drive, load which ever version of windows you want, and *poof* you have windows with 2gb...but the point is moot if you want...

rrfranczak3, thanks for the reply and that is definitely something to think about if I can't get the mini 10v I have upgraded. I didn't really look at the regular mini 10 because I always thought it might be interesting to try Mac OS X at some point. At the moment, I am really liking Ubuntu Netbook Remix personally, although I am trying to set my son up with Windows 7 and 2G of RAM seems like something that will really help.

i don't know about your 10v but my 10v says SD-MS/MMC above the slot so all those types of flash memory are supported.

If I knew someone were willing to do it for $20 (or GBP) I would let them. I'm fairly handy with a precision screwdriver and a beer, but I have watched the videos and after my friend telling me he has done 4 (without) issue and found it hard, I worry about myself. That said, it is something that requires you to basically tear the entire computer apart, it is not a user upgradeable item according...

Do you have a 10 or a 10v? I think the model numbers are 1010 and 1011, respectively.
The 10v can be upgraded with normal laptop DDR2 RAM (but the RAM slot is awkward to reach). The 10 has its RAM and CPU soldered on a daughterboard. So, the 10 can only be upgraded with an expensive, hard-to-find, Mini 10-specific Dell part.

Look at the keyboard. If it's like the Mini 9, then pressing Fn+ numbers control brightness, volume, etc.

It's just like any other 2.5" hard disk - that it is an SSD inside does not matter. Use standard disk cloning tools, such as Acronis TrueImage. The hardest part is connecting both disks at once - a USB to 2.5" SATA adapter will take care of that. Or you can image your current disk to an external USB drive and then restore to the new one with a bootable CD that has the restore software.

I went with the Intel 5300, which has been great. You should be able to pick one up on eBay for less than $20. I know a few people who have gone with the Intel 5100 as an alternative. Whichever one you choose, make sure it's the half-mini version (NOT the mini version).
