It's supply vs. demand fastbacks are great looking Stangs. The Elenore craze put the 67-68 fastbacks out of reach for most people. Keep looking you have all the time in the world. I'd wait and buy something you really want not something your settling on.

brake warning light..

Your explanation says that if one side of the brakes fail, then the shuttle valve will kick over and throw the light. Your original post said that ALL of the brakes failed on the car. Did you replace both master cylinders and fill/bleed fronts and rears? It sounds to me like a pressure balance problem; you have more pressure in one loop than the other, which prevents the shuttle from resetting. If you only replaced one master, you might have...

does the brake fluid have a sensor that comes on when the fluid is low? If so check it, it may be bad and causing a bad fault... especially if the brake system was bleed correctly and the brakes feel normal. Other issue might be vacuum, you can check your vac system under idle/load etc and drop off (from rpm high to idle) to ensure its with in spec and doesnt jump... depending on the cam setup...

Hmm...they made a bunch of GTA's in 67. They were basically GT's with an auto tranny and had either the 289 or the 390 4V. I don't think they made any in 68. Sounds like someone may have stuck some emblems on a 289 GT. You could try a vin decoder or something along those lines to find out. But to my knowledge they only produced them in 67, as coupes, verts, or fastbacks.

I'm not too familiar with the older generations (although I hope one day I'm as lucky as you are to come across such a classic ). Perhaps this will give you a stepping stone on your project. I found a .pdf for the '67 with stock AC and replacing the heating core. That can be seen HERE Note that this will take you directly to the .pdf file. I got that "how-to" from THIS website. ...

NADA classic car pricing is where I'd check. Your looking around 7,900. low retail 21,600. high retail. Find out what 289 it has it makes a huge difference in price. Also you say gt like interior? Does it have pony interior (horses on the backs of the seats)?

Best bet I can currently think of right now is to check a junk yard. If you can get inside the ignition to replace these (or at least compare them) it might give you a better idea on the cause of malfunctioning at least.
