I think I was a little over harsh in my other reply - DS has been a bit better today We're working on some new strategies with him and the puppy! Good luck with whatever dog you choose.

Hi there Are you taking her out every hour, on the hour, as well as straight after she wakes and straight after she's been fed? Having an open door can complicate things a bit, in as much as the pup seems to be trained more quickly than it really is (because in actual fact it's spending a lot of time outdoors, where 'accidents' aren't a problem), and also because the pup cannot ...

We were advised to get a crate and we never used it. I know that many people swear by them but I did not like leaving our puppy in one and tbh, it was not necessary as she is not destructive. She had (and has) pretty much the run of the house. She was house trained pretty fast and since then has rarely had an accident.

I'm going to go against the grain here - When we were kids, we always had dogs and they were always docile, lovely animals unless you went near their beds. In the entire house that 2sq feet is their own space. Dogs need to feel like they have their own space. Your DD is 8, she's old enough to understand that the dogs bed is off limits. It was only a warning snap, he was just marking ...

I have just bought a Juwel "vision 180" aquarium. I got a price from aquacadabra.co.uk/ which was the best price I could find, and then went to my local fish shop that I know and trust for quality fish and advice and asked them to match the price which they were happy to do. The website linked there was however collection only for that price, but is pretty local to me so I could have ...

I think that's it to be honest. Mine are pretty much off the lead once I get to the field as they take absolutely NO notice of other dogs/people - they just trot along beside me, then go off for the occaisional blast across the field together. (Yes, it was VERY hard work, but worth it!) If I see what looks like a particulaly 'active' dog ahead, I put them on the leads - I usually find ...

I thought that the Obamas got a Portugese Water Dog because their daugthers are allergic and Porties are meant to shed less - although I don't think any dog is ever going to be exactly hypoallergenic .

Hi Itchy, Congratulations!! What breed do you have and what is her name? I can't help you I'm afraid - don't you hate it when people post that?! But just wanted to say good luck with everything - I am getting a puppy in 2 weeks so am busy checking all the advice on here. You've just brought up another point I hadn't thought of! There is so much more to think about it seems than with a ...
