THE Brando and films - Page 2 -...
Published (2009-11-10 18:18:00)
Continuing our previous discussion of Brando: His own giant talent aside, I submit that a major reason for Brandos best performances was the superb casts with which he worked, especially in his early films. For instance, in three of his earliest and most outstanding films A Streetcar Named Desire , Viva Zapata , On the Waterfront he was directed by Elia Kazan, himself a product of the method school of acting. From what I've read,...

Top 5 Current Directors
Published (2009-11-11 03:35:00)
Taking inspiration from another thread (Top 10 Directors of All Time), I thought I'd try and start a discusssion of folks' top 5 directors currently working today. These can be those you consider "the best," "most important," or just your own favorites. I'd like everyone to say something about each director, or at least give examples of what you consider to be their best work, or why...

I also like William Katt. I had no idea that this movie existed. Thank you so very much for taking the time to post this. This looks like it’s going to be a four star adventure for me to watch.

I have always rooted for the return of Whoopi Goldberg, but since you can find her everyday on The View now, why bother?

I hear Sinatra was actually a really unpleasant, mean-spirited man. But, of course, I can't judge the guy because I didn't personally know him. I agree though, he was an amazing singer. Pretty good actor too. I love him in From Here to Eternity . I'll have to look into that film. It sounds funny. Thank you.

Yes, I like The Mechanic too. Jason Stratham is in the remake (I'm assuming he's playing the JMV role) but does anyone know if anyone's been signed up for the Bronson role?

Martin Scorsese To Be Honored at 2010 Golden Globes with Cecile B. DeMille Award In January, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) will bestow the Honorary Cecile B. DeMille Award to Martin Scorsese for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment field, to which we say Congratulations, Mr. Scorsese. Of course, any award honoring Scorseses career is well-earned by the prolific and influential director. His lengthy and...

What if their "most famous film" (does this extend to films that are famous for the wrong reason) and my personal recommendation are the same?

1. Martin Scorsese - Raging Bull
2. Wong Kar-wai - In the Mood for Love
3. Nicolas Roeg - Walkabout
4. Werner Herzog - Aguirre, The Wrath of God
5. Terrence Malick - Days of Heaven
Though they are not all completely contemporary, (though I suppose Wong Kar-wai is), they still submit films today which I enjoy.

He was way cool in The Mechanic , but that's all I've seen him in. He contrasts nicely against Charles Bronson in the film.

Wow. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape is awesome. Leo is awesome in that movie.
I do think this is a really good idea for a thread, though. And a tough one, too. Most great actors are great right out of the gate. To note one getting better at it is a tough call to make.
Many actors tend to get worse (Mark Walberg) rather than better. Most mid range actors have on days & off ...

Yawn. I would rather the show was hosted just by Robert Downey Jr. That would be awesome. Physical and spiritual eye candy.
A duo? Really? We don't need a duo.
At least it's not that beloved-except-by-me talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, again.
