QUOTE(Sneakeater @ Nov 27 2009, 09:35 PM) What's especially weird, from my perspective, is that Wiseman was a law professor before he was a documentarian. That explains everything.

never watched until this season and only saw a few shows. i don't get it. the finalists are all the worst whiners. the people who lost the most and showed some heart were all cut early. what's the attraction to this show?

QUOTE(splinky @ Nov 29 2009, 01:23 PM) what was that crap in sandy's hair and i don't mean her weave Aside from her traditional hair extensions she had a white garland wrapped around her head a couple of times. She looked like a complete fool. I am absolutely thrilled that you watched this. It was like watching a comet striking the earth.

QUOTE(Deb Van D @ Nov 29 2009, 03:54 PM) And at the bitter end they all gathered around a patio fire pit and it . . . began to snow. Magical. It was a cold day in July. I suspect several of the party-goers felt more like it was a cold day in hell.

Based of course on the play by Patrick Hamilton, whose first, rare and long out-of-print novel Monday Morning I finished yesterday.

It's the rooftop of the Palais Garnier -- the home of the ballet company. It was a wonderful movie. The ballet company is scheduled to perform in NYC in 2012. I'll be there.

I just saw this on DVD and I thought it was an utter failure and a waste of Winslet's good performance. It fails to deal with anything at all. We're expected to think that great problems have been worked through if the characters stare into space a lot and get divorced. Ralph Fiennes is totally misused in the film, his role being the older man looking back wistfully through a train window and sighing. Also, you have the youngster...

I agree. The cards are stacked to cause you to empathize with someone who was not a good person. [spoiler below] And poor Winslet seems fated to die in many films.

It's harmless, sort of inane. Very little adult humor but seems to hit the spot for a 7 year old. Gary Oldman does a cool voice--sort of channeling George C. Scott's Buck Turgidson, much better than his Christmas Carol voices. The end credits are neat, conjuring up images of BEMs (bug eyed monsters). What's surprising is the large number of Hispanics working on the technical end of ...
