Rosie had dinner at Alice's and seems to have liked the place. QUOTE Apps were squash soup, mushroom soup (it will be on my list of the best dishes of 2009, coming out at the end of December), mac and cheese served in a cast-iron frying pan that gets an extra nod from thick smoked bacon, addictive fried onion rings served with spicy homemade ketchup, and a light chopped salad made with assorted lettuces and veggies. You can eat simply or...

QUOTE(menton1 @ Dec 22 2009, 02:59 PM) Back in the thread, someone earlier mentioned Iron Horse. Was in Westwood last Sunday, and decided to give it a go, hadn't been in over 10 years. WHAT A MISTAKE! There was something queasy about the atmosphere in the place and it seemed unclean. That perception wasn't helped by an endless parade of wait staff and bus help carrying full garbage containers right past our...

There was something queasy about the atmosphere in the place and it seemed unclean. QUOTE(E.L.A. @ Dec 1 2009, 06:40 PM) Anyone try the burger at the new Porter House Grill in Norwood? Anyone been there yet? QUOTE(E.L.A. @ Nov 15 2009, 02:11 PM) This week I am having a lunch meeting at The Porter House, so, sure, why not, another burger. ELA - Did you ever make it to The Porter House in Montvale for the burger? What did you think? They've always been my favorite. I know that The Porter...

QUOTE(marauder @ Dec 17 2009, 05:02 PM) Also at the center of the criminal investigation of stealing credit card numbers. lol Ironic, isn't it, that Balocco is next to a monastery. Some info on the arrests are here. Doesn't look like the owner, Adolfo Marisi, was charged. http://www.northjersey.com/news/crime_courts/79029727.html .

Yeah, it's a little tougher to shake the image of felonious theft, than it is a bad scampi.

It's financed by the Bergen Record, but it's a glossy upscale mag and the little editorial content contained in it seems to be directly related to the advertisers displayed there. 90% of the pages are ads, and the other...

New Jersey Hot Dogs
Published (2009-12-18 00:27:00)
J&H offers 2 dogs; the standard Thumann's beef and pork dog made for deep frying, and the Thumann's all beef dog. If you don't specify which, you get the beef/pork. A classic Jersey Texas Weiner joint. Originally located in Fair Lawn, they moved to their current location some years ago. I often read comments from people who say the dogs at the Paterson location were better. I was never to the Paterson restaurant, but...

Looks like the challenge here will be to get through the winter. Looks like a winner for in-season, though.

QUOTE(hotdoglover @ Jan 25 2007, 09:32 AM) Tuesday's are called Fat Tuesday's. All double Italian Hot Dogs are sold for the price of a single. I highly recommend this place. I've been to other hot dog restaurants that try to do more than one type of dog. Rarely are they all done well. Jimmy Buff's is an exception. All the offerings are top of the line. The only negative part of my ...

I didn't realize that it's been 4 years since I've written about Highlawn, and how much Dee and I enjoy it. The restaurant is located on the crest of Eagle Rock ridge, a several hundred foot high stone outcropping with a spectacular view of the suburbs and the NY skyline, which is about 15 miles away. Very lovely location. We had dinner last night, and remain quite impressed. In ...

Excellent writeup! It's a wild place for sure. I was there only once, got some corn that wound up tasting moldy, which hasn't moved me to return. Got some pretty good fish from their fish counter at the same time, but overall the place is too much of an ordeal, & a tad too far, to be worth the effort for me.

Initial reports on Smashburger look pretty good. There's an Elevation burger about four blocks away, and a Five Guys planned nearby. Here's one Baristanet member's comments QUOTE I have been twice. Really good. Out of 5 guys and elevation I'd pick Smash, plus ample parking. Really delicous burger, and the onion rings are great. For those in the know kinda reminded me of an onion ...

This is a dream setting for Felton. He is very much a seasonal farm to table chef. I expect some stellar stuff out of this kitchen.

QUOTE(menton1 @ Oct 28 2009, 02:35 PM) So this upscale deli and caterer moved from Ridgewood to Oradell in the summer, opened around 1st week August. New sign, a little housekeeping with the fixtures, etc. Place has been closed for 2 weeks now, no sign, no "closed for renovation", nada. Phone is unanswered, no ans machine, no voice mail. So they went belly up after 2 months?...
