Thanks - these are very helpful suggestions! I'll forward them on to my sisters and see what they think.

Bay Area burgers!

The club cheeseburger at Bix is one of my favorite burgers in the SF Bay. Tied with Spruce for 2nd, with Farley Bar @ #1. Last night was at Bix and had the truffle burger. It is a open faced burger with truffles in the center. More is not more. Comes with truffled pecorino cheese. Not as good as their less expensive club burger. Skip the truffle version and stick with the regular one. The Manhattans we had there last night were first rate.

QUOTE(Rail Paul @ Dec 17 2009, 11:47 AM) or Commander's Palace at the Aladdin? Neither exist any more. Commander's closed over a year ago. And, the Aladdin is now Planet Hollywood.

while supporting a trade show about a year ago i brought my colleagues to Enoteca San Marco - everybody were extremely happy! I also suggest to check Diego in MGM.

Don't forget the hotel buffets barfets. Actually Bouchon is good for this sort of crowd.

My Big Island is experience is several years old now, but FWIW... Merriman's in Waimea was great. Whether having multiple locations has changed that, I don't know. If you have a chance to try the locally raised 'Maine' lobster in one of the higher end places, give it a shot, its good.

Eater LA reports on special fundraising dinners at certain LA restaurants whose local farms were impacted by the freezing weather. QUOTE The farmers that allow us to have beautiful produce on the table when we go out to eat are having a tough time following last month's cold snap, and chefs Suzanne Goin and Evan Kleinman want to help. QUOTE(Aaron T @ Dec 2 2009, 04:28 PM) Lunch at Sushi Wasabi today. Sushi Wasabi has long been considered one of the top 2-3 sushi spots in Orange County and is the favorite of many. I wanted to compare it with Shibucho , which I visited last month. Sushi Wasabi has only one sushi chef, Katsu-san. There are a dozen or so seats at the sushi bar plus tables. There is one waitress...

New Concept changed hands a while back and is now Elite Restaurant. I think Elite is the best dim sum in L.A. because it combines interesting flavors with good execution. Wait is terrible after, oh, 9:45 in the morning. Were you thinking of New Capital? That just opened up, but I heard it was going for the cheap/big audience. 888 is pretty decent, fairly cheap too. Empress Harbor ...
