08 Stumpy vs/09 AS-R?
Published (2009-12-08 16:51:00)
I've got the opium c, mainly due to the cosmetics matching the bike colour (black/red). They're all about the same weight, but the FR and DH ones have more bearings. My take on these headsets is that they are light, have quite small bearings and (for the C versions) are fairly inexpensive. I don't expect them to last anywhere near the length of time a king does, but I didn't choose it for this purpose. On the bulky front...

as far as I know HOPE only made 2 sets of top caps, it was something that they looked at doing not just for YETIs but for other brands but no one seemed to be bothered about them so it never took off. The runs of these need to be in the hundreds to make it worth while stopping what they need to be making to keep up with orders they have already, so you can see why they are reluctant...

Alex, Which Crank Bros headset are you running? I've been using King, but hear the new Crank Bros are great. What is your take on this? Best, John

Best, John That and the hydraformed top tube, I think there is prolly some more differences than that I would bet.

Well the frame showed up and it looks great! Got it built last night with only a few snags. Not really happy about the cable routing on the side of the top tube. And what size/style of front derailer do these bikes use? Bottom pull I'm sure but what size and model are you guys running. Had to stick a cheap sram on there for now.

That would be a tall seatube. I will say that the ASR is a fast bike but watch the seattube. I am 6' tall and prefer a large (though I had a medium).

I currently have an '05 Epic. It is getting worn out. Wheels, cassette, chain... Some of the build kits for the ASR-5 seem quite reasonable ($2850). I won't be able to test ride the ASR-5 before I buy it which is never a good idea I know, but the local area only stocks Specialized and Jamis. My riding consists of a few XC races a year and on the weekends mostly in West Texas and Palo ...

You are right, the DHX Air sucks with the 575. I have a DHX 4 on my bike (not a 575) and it took me a month to dial it in so it was rideable. I ended up running higher pressures in the reservoir to at least add some bottom out resistance and going with a higher pressure in the main spring with less PP... Currently shopping for an RP23 to replace it...

I think the extra travel would cause the wheel to bump into the seat tube (could vary depending on tire size used)

What headset is that? Looks nice and low profile...I have issues with needing bars quite low and therefore a low stack h/set.
