DW 5-Spot versus Ibis Mojo ?
Published (2009-12-01 11:22:00)
The DW Spot has a much firmer pedal platform and is stiffer laterally. The only advantage to the mojo is weight but since it pedals like ass and is a noodle, who cares? I've been riding a Spot all year and built up a Mojo SL last week and couldn't be more disappointed. Looks like the shop I got the Mojo at will take it back. My wife approved trading it for another Spot. One will be AM the other XC. I joke the guys I ride with that...

It was a bad move IMO to increase the headtube length. I remember the discussion, and as far as I can recall, the only reason it was done was for aesthetics. A shorter headtube gives the owner more options.

Anti Sq.. What???
Published (2009-11-28 19:09:00)
Makes sense! I will be riding a DW 5 Spot tomorrow with a 36 Float RC2 spaced down to 150mm and I think I have one 5mm spacer under the stem. I am interested to see how it climbs the loose, steep, rocky but short climbs we have around here.

First of all, just a little bit of my background and what I am riding now. I got a 6-Pack dressed up for AM\FR duties and a singlespeed rigid for XC\Trail use. I really like slack HA and stiff forks, but that is for my AM/FR technical stuff. Lately I found myself enjoying riding some technical stuff on my singlespeed. It has been a while since I realized that there is no need for more than 4-5" of travel to handle most of what I do on one...

Greenmacheen, having just lowered/modified my '02 rfx, I can answer some questions.
First, do you know which rockers you have on your bike; the higher bb/steeper HA ones, or the lower/ slacker ones?
Prior to my mods, the rockers I had on my bike immitated the lower, slacker ones. With a marz. 66 fork set at 150mm of travel, my head angle was 67 degrees, bb height was 14.25 inches. But you can ...

At 135x20x1.2mm you get a volume reduction of 3.24cc.
You could do what I do and squirt in an extra 3/4 of a 5cc pillow pack of Fox Fluid into the air can and get the same result. Don't even have to remove the shock from the bike to get the fluid in. I've been doing this for about 18 months and have not experienced any problems with fluid migrating into the negative air chamber or blocking...

I was wondering if anyone knows any good articles, or has had the experience, of comparing the Ibis Mojo and the 5 Spot. I will admit in my moment of weakness I sold my 2005 5 Spot and bought a Mojo. Now after months of lurking in the Homer forum and looking at the 5-Spot DW setups, now I am thinking of picking up another 5-Spot. Before I do, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there are big...

About to stir the pot . . .
The MBR review had found two (small) flaws with Spot . . . weight and headtube length.
Wait, I know of a bike that is very similar, but much lighter, has a shorter headtube, and is cheaper--Its called a Ibis Mojo SL . . .
Let the whipping begin.

Saar, thanks for the report. Did you think the TALAS 150RLC was a good match for the frame?(stiff enough?)
Where/how can I demo this bike?.

I have had mine for a year. I originally had the noise and that was fixed with some loctite. Otherwise, the bike is great.
