Short cranks for AM?
Published (2009-11-18 11:31:00)
Yeah there aren't many log crossings here, the trails get a ton of traffic so they're kept clear for the most part. There are a lot of rocks though. I think the obvious thing to do is try to borrow some 165 cranks and see for myself. I'm more of a spinner anyway on the climbs.

Clipless issues
Published (2009-11-18 05:32:00)
Clipless/flat pedals really suck. You're cleated shoe can't properly grip the flat side, and you can't clip into it either. Clipless are really easy to hop on and ride, and it's not until you start to feel comfortable and forget about them that they become a problem. Keep riding them and this phase will pass- you learn to weight the outside of your heel when you're falling. In some directions they're faster to get...

Short cranks for AM?
Published (2009-11-18 04:31:00)
I can agree that - crank length affects ground clearance - crank length affects the angles that your knees are subjected to - crank length affects the distance your foot has to travel for one rotation of the cranks - crank length affects the leverage delivered to the next lever in the drive train Whether you can detect a 2.5 mm, 5mm, or even 10 mm change is debatable, and has been debated. I don't care: I am doing fine with the cranks I...

I know there's been a lot of discussion here about running tubeless, but I don't hear much discussion about pedalling efficiency (read CLIMBING) while using tubless conversions. I do all mountain stuff, which to me means I climb it before or after I descend. I can totally see the benefits for tubeless in downhill riding, (no pinch flats, great traction, no goathead/thorn flats, etc.) but I don't ...

I have spike 777's on my 24" DJ bike. Nice bars but not real light and could use a little more sweep. But that's a strange spec for AM. Are you 8' tall or somethin?

DT makes crappy rims. They're soft. Hadley makes better hubs. How about some EX 721 or 823s on Hadleys?
