I agree that it's rather late for anybody to be saying that we should reject Byron's mural and try for something "better". Byron's been working on this project for months -- since last spring, when this was originally planned for the Heller's Bakery building -- and he's very close to getting funding for the mural. Stopping the process now is tantamount to vetoing the entire project, not just asking...

I don’t understand the significance of the bottom right image and would rather see something depicting the Latino culinary culture of MtP, but otherwise endorse a mural. Quote: Are we so flush with money that we need a mural before we fix the streets, the back alleys, the sidewalks,... of Mt Pleasant?? A call to the Dept of Transportation should address any street issues such as the potholes the cyclist to the left is likely to encounter in...

Thoughts?? ======================================= City Arts, a nonprofit organization that enriches neighborhoods through community art, has been shortlisted for partial funding of a mural by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The mural would be painted on the side of the Atonatl condominium building at 3125 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW. This building is owned by the nonprofit organization Manna, which has endorsed the project along...

No word can do justice to both the idea and the project. Are we so flush with money that we need a mural before we fix the streets, the back alleys, the sidewalks,... of Mt Pleasant?? If DC does not know what to do with our tax money (beside this), I'd suggest they give some of it back to us...

meh . . . nothing particularly appealing here. it's the same old collage stuff, very literal and safe.

I'm not a member of Historic Mt. Pleasant, but I agree with the points they make in the letter. The mural is really not very interesting and will look quite dated in a very short time. A clean and well maintained streetscape along with improved facades would do wonders for Mt. Pleasant St. This mural, I'm afraid, is just more visual clutter.

If anything, the mural should be more diverse. There are many people that are not Latino in MtPleasant. Misguided guilt shouldn't cloud reality. God help us if this thing is painted. Dated and kind of cheesy. Sorry Byron, but how bout something more artistic and less politically correct.

I hate to complain, but since the question was asked...I am not a fan. I tend to agree with HMP's assessment. Cluttered and dull, with one picture being incredibly random (bottom right). Top left pic also is strange. Something with vibrant colors could really stand out and look great in that space.

I think that the design is nice...since art is in the eye of the beholder...I am so tired of the Historical Society deciding what is and is not appropriate for Mt. Pleasant. I read their letter and it seems that all they are doing is complaining without suggesting an alternative. While they are entitled to their opinion, let it be just that...an opinion and not the deciding vote...

I switched to comcast because the fastest connection I could get from verizon was a paltry 1.5 mbps when I was paying for the 3 mbps connection. The speed is limited by the existing infrastructure, so it's likely nothing will change until they run fiber for the fios service. Who knows when that will happen. I'll probably switch back if that ever comes to our neighborhood, but I found ...

I went to the very first one at Cardozo HS for pregnant women and children. I got there around 4 and was out around 6pm. There were definitely some speed bumps in the process but they did try to make it as seamless as possible. For example, I am pregnant so I wanted to see if they had the shot without preservatives so I asked a Department of Health worker what the options are. She had no ...

I would LOVE to have a Starbucks, and any other national chain that is willing to invest in our neighborhood. I personally don't drink their coffee (I think its too expensive) but I would rather see a store on the street that people actually like/go to rather than another dump selling foul smelling chicken or a laundromat. I have lived here for 5 years and have watched Mt Pleasant ...

You should check out the group houses on Lamont and other streets -- these folks are living the hippie lifestyle you long for -- that is until they get into the Saabs and VW cabrios that their parents bought for them and ride off to work or school on their $800 bikes.
