Don't know what that means Global, but I bet it ain't a bad thing! LOL! Got a PM from the Admin today offereing me the job of moderator for the cruiser/chopper section. I accepted the offer. It's my first time as a mod on a forum, but they make it pretty easy there. As long as politics aren't brought up, pretty much anything goes, except harrassing other members or things like that. They don't mind the language, and...

Glad you came on this board & YES you are most welcome. I note that you used your head in first of all take the MSF Course which we recommend to ALL beginners. To then shopped around for a SENSIBLE bike to LEARN on. If you keep that bike up into best of form then when you want to step-up you have a good bike you can sell to other's wonder what to do as the m/c word is so new to them. I am...

Go with the 93 500. If it is in great shape it is basically the same bike as a 05 250 with more engine.

Just a little update - I took a look at the 500 and I rode a bike around a parking lot for the first time! haha It started up ok cold and everything worked but it was leaking oil like a freaking sieve. The guy told me he had just topped off the oil a week ago and he spilled some into the pan so that's why...bs I say...Anyways I had to assume it leaked oil. There was a little leak I could see from a gasket right under the gas tank area as...

Ummm, any of those 150cc and 200cc bikes traveling "doing a lot of riding throughout some of those countries" or are they the bikes that are used in one town or City (like Quito)? Cheap and what can reliably doing a tough job are two different things. You need to look into what is available where you live, and ask about specific bikes, and let us know what comes up.

Hi All... The name is Gino, and no Im not italian, am 100% Irish, I also use the acronym YCHGTBOY=Your Curiousity Has Got The Better Of You.. I've been a biker for 24 years and owned 50+ bikes. I've a dogy right knee courtesy of a drunk driver. I am currently riding a Gilera 600 which is good for the back roads here in winter, anyhow, the reason I'm here, is to cross the globe and ...

SilentOtto said... So I have extremely little experience on motorcycles, and even less knowledge. A friend and I are planning a trip down to Central America from Calgary, Alberta and we foresee plenty of obstacles. We were wondering what types of bikes we should look into if we need them to be able to deal with terrible dirt roads (some will be pretty much just like off-roading) but still ...

what is your riding experience? have you taken the MFS or similar learning course?
also both bikes are good bikes for what they are, neither is a cruiser or a racebike, its good to buy a bike according to what you are going to use it for. if the 500 has truely been taken care the way its been described, i would go for it, especially if you can talk down the price b/c of its age! if you have ...

First off take the MSF...you may HATE riding or have no competence for it. I've been riding for 35+ years and have owned 8 bikes in that time...from 50cc up to a sportbike in my garage with 100+ hp and 70+ lb/ft of torque. The bike I enjoy riding the most has similar power to that little Ninja; a DRZ400SM weighing just a bit over 300lbs and with only 35hp at the rear wheel. It will not hit ...
