Even a momentary distraction can have dire consequences in heavy urban traffic, as you discovered. Luckily for me, I've never had my "muscle memory" braking reaction favor the rear brake...unless I'm riding in the rain. I'm actually trying to incorporate a bit more rear brake into my riding as I really don't incorporate it quite often enough.

Good news! This is another good example that playing on the roads are serious. You can kill someone and if you do that, you will be seriously punished. There are so many that get away from the crime scene and the accident just noted as a single vehicle accident.
