I've read in training manuals that it is a good idea to shift the motorcyle into first gear at a stoplight so that if an emergency were to occure you would be able to hit the throttle and move out of the way. I've read in these forums about people who have had the clutch cable suddenly snap while sitting at a light in gear and the bike jerked unexpectedly creating a risky situation. I...

I was riding my motorcycle today to a buddy's house and saw one of those signs. This is the first time in like 4 years that I have seen one of those signs and was actually on my bike. Anyway, the sign was because the road was grated and very choppy. I felt like my bike was going to slip right out from under me because those grates are working against my tires. Ironically, I had just ...

I've heard that people will see a white helmet before another color. Do ya'll think any truth to that? Or of a bright color being better seen by a driver? Thanks for the input

This may sound dumb, but keep in mind I am a very new rider. I just got a 2005 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD. I have to stop at a stop light every morning on the way to work. My motorcycle + my weight is not enough to make it change. I have tried moving the cycle all around the stopping area, but the lights simply WILL NOT TURN GREEN! I have been stuck at this stop light for up to ten ...

Im not a huge fan of polls, but I was curious what everyone wears when they ride. Gloves, jackets, pants, helmets, or all of the above. Im going to set up the poll to where you can choose one or all of the options, so check as many boxes as you need to.

I understand that motorcycle safety is a major concern. I understand that many riders live by the ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) rule. What I don't understand, however, is when bikers look down on and ridicule bikers who don't live by that rule. When the weather is cool (60 or below), I wear a leather jacket, gloves, full face helmet, the whole 9 yards. However, the hotter it gets...

The other day on my way to work I watched a rider on a sportbike zip ahead as his light went green and pull a wheelie for a distance. This was on a four-lane highway and he must have been doing around 50 mph. Is this as dangerous as it looks? I mean aside from the fact that he was wearing nothing but shorts, tee, sunglasses and maybe tennis shoes.

Is not having a windshield really even an option if you use your bike on the highway? I would imagine if a rock or something go kicked up and hit you in the neck, you'd pretty much be done.
