NOVA homebirthers and BCBS

Hello mommas! There's a chance that my health care at work will be changing and I'd like some input from local ladies as I think about TTC soon. If you have had a home birth recently AND have Blue Cross Blue Shield... did BCBS cover your homebirth? In-network or out-of-network? And lastly, if you want to share, who was your midwife? Any problems getting insurance to help cover costs? If you don't want to post, feel free to PM...

Hi all, We just moved to Louisville, KY from Seattle. We're looking for a doctor for my 13 month and 3 year old boys, my husband and myself. Family practice preferred. We believe in natural childbirth, breastfeeding and cloth diapering but also believe in vaccination. Got anyone you can recommend? We're near St. Matthews, so someone out thataway (or Crescent Hill or Highlands) would be best. Thanks much, Mylocat (doctor and mom of 2)

Everything is booked in Blacksburg on football weekends, so you'll have to look out of the area. Maybe in Roanoke. The Hotel Roanoke is great, but high end. What do you like to do? I could make suggestions for good museums, good hikes, good antiques. So, let us know where your interests lie.

Thank you, edwardsmom! I've decided to plan a surprise closer to home this year, as I'm not sure my kids (or I) are ready to be states about yet. But, I plan to surprise him with that trip at some point in the future, so I'll keep this info for then. Thank you again!

Candace attended the birth of my son a year and a half ago. She was the backup for my midwife who was delayed with another birth. She was wonderful. I would trust her again in a heartbeat. I'll always be grateful to her for how respectfully she held that space. It was amazing. I met Karen because she was Linda's backup. She seemed nice enough but that story doesn't surprise me in the slightest. (Much love to her. It' puts a...

In my experience, BCBS does cover CPMs at the out-of-network rate. Usually about $1600- sometimes less, sometimes more. Just make sure your CPM has a billing service and BCBS pin so that they can submit claims on your behalf. Otherwise, you will have to submit on your own.

Twin Homebirth in VA??
Published (2009-11-09 20:05:00)
I'd appreciate any leads anyone may have! I'm in Richmond and am having NO luck finding anyone who will even consider doing a homebirth with twins. So frustrated! Even if you know of a twin-friendly midwife in another area, I'd love to know their name. Maybe they can help point me towards someone who would be willing to work something out with me. Any help would be much appreciated! Maybe I should offer a reward--I'll name...

Hi!! I'm in Va Beach and see Dr. Valentine right now for my pregnancy. (Just search Richard Valentine and the site should pop up) I love all the midwives & staff there...super friendly and they really care...and actually remember you. I'm in the VA area.....I've moved around a lot and keep winding up back here I don't know a lot about Suffolk, except that ds has a really nice pediatrician out there, but there are lots of activities for families in Norfolk, Va Bch, and even Hampton. And if you're in norfolk you won't need to go through the tunnel to come to Va Bch. there's an aquarium, several small scale amusement-type parks...
