Hydraulic Roller Cam
Published (2009-11-26 05:42:00)
I would have thought a roller cam with more duration would be more desirable and would give a lot more power?

Ford parts on a Mopar? I guess anything is possible. I'm sure Bendix sold brake parts to most of the car manufacturers. Maybe some kind of NASCAR stuff from Holman-Moody? Somebody on here will know!

The Perfect Car?

I can't agree with that. For example this truck does everything that I expect from it and does it well, but it's far from the "perfect" truck.

Hydraulic Roller Cam

That's the surprise with my cam. No choppy idle, no vacuum issues, just good performance. Thumpety cams are good to hear, but it turns out, there are other alternatives. Very stealthy!

With everything sorted out well it could be even quicker than high 12's. Steeper gears and perhaps 1000 rpm more stall would really make a difference.

DJM What part of pulled to 6500 on the dyno did you misunderstand? Did someone say shifted at 6500 rpm? I must of missed that part. And if you go check my oops "6800 rpm" regarding 4.88's and 29" tire., you are already too late. And if you haven't seen it, is that gospl.lol. Then you need a more presicely built and tuned engine maybe. I most certainly have the exception though. And this while still mixing...

I think the main thing is to run non synthetic, use a break in supplement;
I used Lucas, and to prelube the engine. I actually used Valvoline 15w40
made for diesels since it has the zinc additives for flat tappets. For my
727 I just ran synthetic Mobil 1.

If that cam acts any like the one I have, it is plenty of cam.
I have the Mopar 5007551 roller cam, 9.75:1 compression, airgap mainfold, 750 Demon carb, 3.23 gears in My demon. It will boil the tires all the way to second gear and then some.
Specs are:0.472/0.487 lift, 272/278 at 0.050 and 119 lobe separation.
The idle is fairly docile, and the performance is a shocker. I thought I'd bought...

Recommendations: Headers, 2.5 inch exhasut with X-pipe, 3.91 rear gears, 3500 stall, synthetic engine oil, tranny fluid, and rear end fluid, skinny front tires, lightweight wheels, Wilwood front discs for a weight loss of 20lbs per front wheel. Shed some weight with fiberglass hood, battery in trunk, remove other seats. A well ventilated engine compartment will also get you .2 ...

The frame is different as well on the '70 models, when you go to the round
guages from the standard cross sweep guage. Wiring will need to be changed

I believe there is a copper spray that people put on those steel gaskets. As for the bolts, it is britical that they are extremely clean, as well as the threads in the block. Use a thread chaser on the block. I have had great luck with ARP Assembly Lubricant on head bolts. There isn't really any "sealer" used on head bolts, at least not on old Mopars.

The toe is way out of whack. Inside edge wear usually means the wheels are running in a "Y" direction, both facing out.
Loosen your rod end clamps and adjust the tie rods untill you get about 1/8" of toe "IN". I use the center tread groove for a measure point. Measure the front and rear of the same groove on the tire, from one side to the other. This will get you in the ballpark untill you get ...

1157 bulb pulls 2.1amps Plus resistance in wiring, switch, connectors, sockets, etc.
2 bulbs at 2.1 amps each= 4.2amps
R=V/I so 14volts/5.8amps= 2.4ohms in the wiring and stuff.
Your just fine.
They rate that 1157 @ 12.8volts
