I got the ATSG GM TH200-4R manual and then decided I wasn't even going to attempt it. I plan on using the T5 until it fails and then find a T56. I never want to worry about a slushbox again.

.. I'd pick up a used working 200-4R with OD and swap it in... you'll love it... dig out 1st gear, overdrive 4th gear... get an '86 or newer, preferably from an SS or GN, all 3 have upgraded parts over the '85 and older... mine hasn't been touched in 175,000 miles... not even fluid... .. Only thing that come to my mind right now is the "lo/reverse clutch housing" remover. You can do without this tool, but trust me. Makes your life 100x easier. I think this tool is a must have one. You may also want to get the front pump alignment tool, but even this, you can do without. It just makes your life easier by maybe 10x? And if you don't have it already, grab yourself a trans yoke from 200-4R or TH-350 so when...

Like any other rear you can upgrade the axles to better axles, you can add stronger/better gears, you can upgrade the posi unit and you can also add a Aluminum Differential cover with the bearing cap supports.

Good call - that's too much for a NWC and personally I'd only go with a WC model when it comes to a T5 as even they aren't very strong.

Not a direct answer to what you are looking for, but with info provided by other members along the way it should easily give you the info you seek. http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.p hp?ubb=showflat&Number=730249#Post730249

Get a cable from either a 83 or 84 SS monte. They came from the factory
with TH350's.

I'll hopefully be one of the manual monte cult followers before next summer hits. I just picked up a W/C T5 today from a 92 F-body. The only real bad part is one of the mounting ears (lower DS) is partially broken, but the previous owner didn't have any issues with it, so I am crossing my fingers there. The good is that it was supposedly rebuilt recently and has less than 1000km on it (he ...

.. If you can do the rebuild yourself or find someone who does them at home, it will be a lot less to do the 200-4R, even with some beef up parts/kit... ask around at car shows, speed shops, etc. to find someone... rebuilding videos also available... our thread here should be a big help: http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.p hp?ubb=showflat&Number=726434&page=all

If you have a TH200C w/lockup TC then yes, if it's a TH200 no. The TH200/200C is a very weak trans & not recommended for any performance use. I'd dump the TH200/200C and get a TH350C or TH2004R.

If it's a World Class transmission and doesn't have any chunks in the oil
then $300 is a fair price.

Haven't had the need to replace the clutch pack in my 8 1/2" (new Eaton posi) but the procedure should be the same as described in the service manual for the 7 1/2" rear. If the rear has high mileage you may consider installing new bearings for the carrier and pinion along with a seal and crush sleeve. Getting the pinion out isn't a big deal but getting the correct pinion preload is a little ...
