do you know the kids parents really good? if so then you might want to have a chat with them. i had to do this with one of ds friends..i had to call and talk to his mom. she had no idea. the problem got fixed very fast.( and yes he still comes over and no he did not die of embarrassment either)

I'd probably just ignore it but I'm not one for pointing out to someone, or someone's child, that they are stinky.

The teacher should have told her that if her ds was not going to participate, the both HAD to leave. That mother has a screw loose.

DS has this assignment due today. He printed it out last night, no problem. This morning, as he was looking it over, he decided that perhaps he formatted it incorrectly. They had to find an article online, print it out and then attached questions/answers. Initially he just printed the article on a separate piece but then he felt that her instructions meant he should print it on a page with his name/date heading on the top. I have to say her...

I agree with everyone else, I AM a teacher and I would never want to single out any child and also would NOT want to sit and open gifts at a "SET TIME" that is just crazy! I have plenty of years where I get a bunch of gifts and some years when I get nothing...gifts are not what matter to me, I would rather the parents spend their $$ on their own children, than on me. I am sending in my sons gift for his teacher on the last...

Assuming they're about the same age as your son, it's probably just the hormone shifts that come with puberty.
Does your son use deodorant? Maybe having it in a highly visible place in his room when they come over would give them a hint.
Friend: "Dude, what's this? You wear deodorant?"
Son: "Yeah. I like the way it makes me smell."

No homework. I would have been fine with it had they got some. They will continue to read and add to their reading logs. We have workbooks here so we can always do those.

Long after that child forgets what he did wrong, he will remember how his mother treated him in front of the class. So sad.

With M'ija and the aroma issue, I was blunt with her. I handed her a stick of deodorant, and when she asked me why, I told her, "Because, my darling, my angel, my love, light of my life, you reek."

Virtual school is wonderful. My son takes History and Science and the teachers are really involved in calling to check up on them. A lot of the feedback from his work is so detailed, they really take time to go over things with him. It has been great for us.

Have you asked her why she is asking? If most of her friends are telling her the truth about it I would almost go with the truth here. It's sad as a parent. I'm thinking this is the last year with my oldest who just turned 9.
Or you could be evasive and say "Santa only brings presents to those who believe".

That is weird and would bother me.
At our school, the kids bring the gifts to school in the morning and give them to the teacher. I wouldn't think that would be part of the party. Our party is only 45 minutes.

Depending on the size of the item, it has just been sitting next to the tree with a bow. My kids never asked for anything I couldn't afford when they were little, so it wasn't a big deal what they asked for. I also would wrap Santa's presents in a different wrapping paper. But all the presents were together under the tree, and one child would start passing out a present to everyone. Of course, I ...

In NC, public school have them starting in 3rd grade. (I think they are in talks to implement something at the end of 2nd. Anyone know?)
The private school I work in uses the SAT beginning in Kindergarten, but it isn't "high stakes", just FYI.

We're pretty busy...we've got a lot of family coming to town, also friends coming into town that we haven't seen in years, so we're having people over/going over to people's houses, celebrating etc
The kids always have a lot of playdates, sleepovers and day trips over the break, so we'll be doing that stuff too.

Missy you are so right. Our ds is 8 and he was the samw way. Now it is no computer in the moring. He can play on it when he comes home. We have a wii but they only play on the weekend. If they are bad during the week then no wii on the weekend. This has worked for us.
