The doe was trotting by whan I shot and the bullet passed through the tree about 2 feet before getting to her. The bullet passed completely through the doe too. I like those things. I'm a fan of the .308 cal bullets at long range. The 180 grain bullets in that caliber are superb for long range shooting when leaving the barrel at 3000 fps plus. I've got a 300 Dakota built on a Rem action wearing a 26 inch Kreiger barrel. Sweet shooting rifle. Of the cartridges that would fit what your looking for, the 300 Win, 300 Weatherby, and 300 Dakota's ...

Ruger 77/22 is one of the most accurate .22's out there. I know there'll be alot of 10/22 fans post here, but I'm a bolt fan and love the 77/22. Mine will shoot Green Tag ammo inside one ragged hole at 30 yards. The rifle I most enjoy to shoot of any that I own. .22's are great! Enjoy. If you want to go with a RUM, I would go with the 300 RUM over the 7mm, just a better all around caliber IMO. If your longer shots will only be 375 yds, you really don't need that much gun. A good shooting 30-06 will do the trick out past that every time, but... if you want a magnum, you could go with a 300 WSM, or a 300 Win Mag. Anything built on the Rem 700 ...

My H&R doesn't kick any worse than my M70 7mm Rem Mag, my 12 ga pump shooting Federal turkey loads, . 50 cal smokepole, or any other gun I've shot for that matter. I enjoy shooting it and actually, that's part of the reason I'm getting into handloading, so I can shoot it more!!! Not sure where all this "heavy recoil" is coming from. I've shot Hornady and Nosler ...
