We did well on Purina Pro Plan. Switched to Eagle Pack, and we have definitely noticed less shedding. They're both in the lower $40s for the big bags.

Standard Poodle? - Ice...
Published (2009-11-26 10:47:00)
Standard poodles were originally bred to be water retrievers. The “poodle clip” was designed to help streamline their movements in the water and to keep their joints and vital organs warm when doing long retrieves in cold water. I’m not personally familiar with any poodles and can’t vouch for their ability as hunters or family pets as a whole. Yet, I know there is potential. This year a 3 year old Standard Poodle named “Ten” won a pass...

So I was walking some crp and we (dog and I) jumped this creek. I heard him yelp so i turn and his face is covered in blood. So i look at him some more and its coming out of his nose and he keeps making this sneeze noise evere five second. I'm a little worried. the bleeding stoped but will this affect his nose at all smelling wise?

We had a lab for 13 years and always fed her Eukanuba. It worked really good for and I would definitely recommend it. We just got a new pup and someone recommended Fromm's dog. We are going to give that a try and see how it goes.

Snag, great choice. I have a PP out of Cedarwoods! She was 18 months old this fall when we started hunting in earnest. She has had a phenomenal season. 2 duck trips to Canada, 3 pheasant trips to NoDak, so far. She has exceeded my expectations. If she continues to progress she is going to be something special.

Could you imagine steadying a poodle to the flush - then releasing her to "Fifi". It needs to be done! LOL.

A month or more ago on Kent Hrbek Outdoors, they were out in WI at a lodge that had only poodles to hunt behind. Kent & Erik claimed that they were amazed at how well they did. They were excellent hunting dogs. If I remember my history, back in the 1400's in England they were being bred to be a hunting dog.

Chris63, My better half grew up with poodles. We got a standard about 2 years ago. Very intelligent dogs. They don't shed. All around a nice family dog. Can be very sensitive though, when you reprimand them. I have a buddy who bought a standard out of a kennel in SoDak. This was a line of hunting poodles. His is still more of a house dog than a hunting dog. I will have an opportunity to hunt ...

With the right training, most dogs can be excellent. Also, non purebreds are considered a bit more intelligent than purebreds. You might have the best of both worlds with that mix.

Check to see if you can see any twig or weed stem stuck up in the nose. If the dog is still sneezing, then there could be something jammed up there. The wife told me a story about a cat that her coworker has. the cat was playing in some weeds one day and it dove in. Next thing they know the cat is always sneezing. They thought it was allergies, and took it to the vet and tested for a bunch ...

With the current age of the dog she may appear in fine condition from the outside but its what going on in the inside you cant see. There are many possible reasons and im sure you can guess without me mentioning them. I would bring your dog to the vet and see what the reason might be. If there is something terminally ill with your dog maybe they might be able to giv some type of meds to help ...

Some work should be done prior to putting your dog in a real hunting sittuation..His first flushes should be in a controlled environment on pen raised birds. This is so you can controll as much as possible...Have him flush the bird in light cover then shoot the bird where he can see it fall so he can associate the gun to the presents of a dead bird..there are no shortcuts to owning a good bird ...
