Metro day pass is well worth it if you're making more than about three or four journeys (e.g. Hotel -> Attraction A -> Attraction B -> Location C -> Hotel).
The Louvre can take an entire day even if you aren't an art-o-holic. If you are, though, I highly reccommend also doing the

I'd recommend doing a boat trip round the entire island of Manhattan in good weather - it was astonishing. Make sure you have a walk
in central park, see the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings up close and diet or not find a proper NYC diner to soak up the atmosphere.

I don't think I've ever had a bad hotel. I did stay at a Pension on a
Greek island once which while being absolutely lovely had a bathroom infested with tiny little flies, about fruit-fly sized. That was... odd.
