Kill the Mandate, Save The Bill!
Published (2009-12-19 23:11:00)
Quote: Unless I am mistaken I think Bernie Sanders said he couldn't support the legislation. Granted that's only one but credit where credits due. I have heard sort of a mixed message from bernie. We all know where he stands, but I have heard him say that he wouldn't rule out voting for the bill in its current form. I guess we will find out very soon if he will make a stand. I think he might wait till the end to cast his vote....

An argument in favor of the mandate is that it will force the young and healthy to subscribe, and hence be invested in how well the system works. Also, universality is one step closer to single payer for all. Having said that, what's left on the table in the current bill is a very meager meal. The choicest morsels and all the gravy go to the insurance companies, and the consumers are left with mostly gristle on their plates. Not at all...

Stop Usury Now
Published (2009-12-12 03:51:00)
Stop Usury Now Comment By William Greider December 10, 2009 The Democratic party brushed aside the question of usury last spring when Congress decided not to impose any limits on the ruinous interest rates charged by major banks and other lenders. But usury is now back on the table, put in play by Metro IAF, an alliance of two dozen faith-based community organizations affiliated nationwide with the Industrial Areas Foundation. These...

Believe me I feel like that too, but I refuse to let set backs destroy what little we have gotten so far. What really puts me in a bad mood is having people give up when things don't go their way and allowing the right to swing the pendulum to swing away from what little we have gotten and having even that wiped away. This is what upsets me the most. Please stop the pendulum from swinging right.

You wrote: An argument in favor of the mandate is that it will force the young and healthy to subscribe, and hence be invested in how well the system works. In terms of the argument re the young and healthy... all that makes sense, but there is some sort of tipping point where it's not worth it. Wendell Potter said this version will create bankruptcies. You wrote: Also, universality is one step closer to single payer for all. Well, they...
