Take the litetouch.wim that MDT creates and add it as a boot image in WDS. PXE boot your client and once winPE loads, it connects back to your deploymentshare and continues running your task sequences. In essence, you are using WDS only to PXE boot.

I think the answer must lie in that question "EasyBCD has detected that your BCD boot data and MBR are either not from the latest version of Windows Vista, or don't yet exist. If you'd like EasyBCD to correct these issues, press OK. This will modify the MBR and requires that you have Windows Vista installed on this machine. You can cancel at any time. Press no to exit." Sysprep is recommended, otherwise you're going to have an orphaned nic from the original image sitting in the device manager as well as the same SID on all of the machines. Assuming you have identical hardware, I would definitely sysprep, however in the answer file that you build leave the product key blank. Then save the sysprep image out to a network share using ghost, true image or anything like that. Then restore the...

Nevermind. I figured out how to mount the .wim file using imagex and remove the sysprep file. The correct sysprep file is now being applied.

The unattend file is copied over a local UNC path (i.e. \\localhost\REMINST\WdsClientUnattend ), so if you can't access the UNC path locally for some reason that could explain this failure. You can enable file tracing ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936625 ) and it might give you more details as to exactly what is failing.

This is the process that I am following, except that I removed the Task Sequence to run sysprep as I was running into issues with this as well. I actually managed to solve this problem by doing something as simple as testing with another keyboard, and older one. Still it didn't get power all the time during the start up but the older one had power at the right moment, so I could follow the advice from the link i provided in the previous post.

I pulled a vista image from a computer. The image is syspreped with a specific sysprep.xml file location within the image @ c:\bin\sysprep.xml . If I open up the image and replace sysprep.xml with a new file will the new versions of passes 4-7 be applied? For example, if I wanted to add a user to all my images, I can put that in OOBE pass 7...neat. But what if, after I sysprep and store the ...

Put both HDDs in and boot the computer. Make a note of which one boots as this will become the 'Active System' drive. Make a note of the drive letter of the other operating system, e.g. E.
Using EasyBCD, go to the Add/Remove Entries Tab (left pane) and at the bottom, click the Windows Tab. In the 'Type' drop-down box add the missing OS (XP or Vista), type in a name and select its drive. ...

You can take the image of your system using imagex.exe and create a wim file. later you can apply this image file to your system in case of recovery.

I am running MDT 2008 at the moment and I would like to upgrade to MDT 2010. Looking at the Documentation, I found the following statement: "MDT 2010 automatically uninstalls previous versions of MDT and BDD before installing MDT 2010, including the following versions: MDT 2008 Update 1." Therefore, do I have to upgrade MDT 2008 to MDT 2008 Update 1 before I can do a further upgrade to MDT ...
