I have found the ways to remove several things I never want to use from the Explorer navigation pane:  Favorites , Libraries , and Homegroup .  This has the effect of reducing visual clutter, moving the stuff I DO want to use up to the top, and making it less likely things will jump around after I have opened Explorer (e.g., right as I'm trying to click on them). Note:  This post involves modifying the registry.   This is not to...

If you want to change permissions for multiple folders, we suggest that you put these folders into one folder. After doing so there would not be any permission confusions. However, if you have to keep the original folder locations, you may: 1. Create a new folder. Move all folders that which permissions are needed to be changed in to the new folder. 2. Change the permission for the new folder. Apply to all its subfolders. 3. Move the folders...

You know, Noel, that's an odd thing.  Or inconsistent might be a better word.  I had spent a couple of hours experimenting with searching the junction SendTo in Win7-64 and had a really difficult time finding any parameters that would find it.  There is a thread on this.  For sure, I had to enable viewing Hidden and System files first (in Folder Options).  Also, back in Feb or March, DarienHawk and I had a brief exchange about this...

When drag and drop to the command prompt was removed with Vista for some strange security reason someone wrote a script which allowed it but it took a while. Interestingly it was restored for 7. I'm sure someone will find a way to patch this, best if it's Microsoft, let's keep our fingers crossed.

can there be an option to lock them open when the taskbar is displayed? It would take fewer clicks when you're often switching back and forth between tasks that have multiple instances running if the previews are pinned open.

Thank you for sharing your experience. :) For enabling the Quick Launch bar in Windows 7, I would like to share following official link, which is easier and clearer. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/975784 Thanks. :) Thanks. Is there a way to change the 'divider'??  Now you get three vertical columns of DOTS... I just want a skinny bar like I have in XP.  Just a tiny little 'raised' bump... 3 vertical columns...

Other than making a separate folder within which you keep the "sensitive" images and which sits on the desktop, I know of no way to do what you want to do.  Perhaps in that folder you can use Large Icons and see the images better. -Noel

It's possible some other Attribute bits in the registry key values in my other thread might affect the entries in the various File-Open dialogs. Edit:  Actually, on my system the fix seems to be in for that style of dialog from the settings in that other thread.  Perhaps you need to log out and back in for it to take effect fully. -Noel

On fresh installs of Windows 7 RTM (both 32- and 64-bit), Windows Explorer does not properly refresh the list of files after moving or deleting. For example, when moving 50 .jpgs from My Documents\test1 to My Documents\test2, only 10 .jpgs disappear from the file list until I manually refresh the view. This occurs regardless of view mode (Large Icons, Details, List). When moving files, I've ...

If you want to do this on many machines or the same machine after it has been reinstalled I would recommend that you use a GPO to set the file permissions on these files and folders.

“Somehow I managed it to get a smaller line spacing…” O, if only we could swap problems! O, if only that “somehow” was a list of what to do to achieve such a great feat! … It sounds like all you may have to do is re-install the operating system, but how nice that would be for someone to examine it and determine what value you changed, where and how. Well, I suppose I’ve been getting used to ...

Arminio, Just to be clear - when you right-click on the Windows Explorer icon in the taskbar, you now see only the option to run the program or Unpin it? Here are three separate links for disabling taskbar jump lists , doing the same by way of group policy , and changing the number of items stored , respectively. I hope one of them can help you!
