Disabling Norton, or other security / AV software often doesn't really get rid of the effects of the software.  Kernel drivers remain loaded, etc.  "Disable" tends to have somewhat of an ambiguous meaning.  Perhaps, all that is being disabled is "real-time" scanning or the like.  About the only thing that will get rid of the effect of the software, is complete uninstallation of the software, as...

This may be of interest, 'Intel support community' John 2 posts caught my eye in this thread: "It's not just Win 7 that has problems, it's XP x64 and Linux as well." and "I've googled quite a bit of stuff on this problem, and I've found that at least Gigabyte boards have the same issue.   I haven't heard back from intel on the issue I reported yet.   Bleeding edge technology is...

Hi Nimaest,   I think you’d better perform an In-Place upgrade to repair the system.   In-place Upgrade ============ 1.     Start the computer. 2.     Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3.     Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate:   a.       If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now.   b.       If Windows does not automatically...

Hi CapWx,   Did the issue occur before by checking "on resume display logon screen"? If not, please see if the issue occurs with the original Linksys WRT310N.   Also, please access Clean Boot . If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue.   If the issue persists, since the issue occurred after installing some updates, you can...

Maybe some of your system components are corrupt because of antivirus. Seems that you run two antivirus at the same time before. I suggest you run In-place upgrade. Please launch the Windows 7 installation resource in the current system and select Upgrade. After doing so you need to reinstall all Windows updates.

Hi You better download graphic drivers from www.nvidia.com , since it's a Geforce. The latest is version 195.62 whql. Go to http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en- us   and search for the driver you need for that card. Good luck. Proposed As Answer by ArcticBloom Sunday, December 06, 2009 8:24 AM

Greetings I have an interesting and somewhat annoying issue that I wonder if anyone else has encountered. Two separate and unrelated functions - just because you set the system to Hibernate after xx time (in Power Options), doesn't automatically mean that Hibernation will be an option in the shutdown menu.  MS would rather you use Sleep (which is, essentially, Standby (as you knew it in XP), plus the writing of a Hibernation file.)  Sleep gives you the best of both - the quick power-down time of ...

If you want some help with this then you are going to have to provide more info than that. What are the system specs, what version of Win7, any error messages displayed, does it do it at random or only when running certain programs, etc. The more pertinent information you can provide, the better.

From what you've written, it sounds as though Windows 7 has not recognized the video card/interface in your system and has reverted to sVGA mode.  However, even in sVGA mode you should be able to select at least 800 x 600. When you say "my comp is 800x600" and "i had windows xp"...  Is this a very old machine? What video card/interface do you have in it? -Noel

Hi AGreen BHM, It may be that a shell extension or other software is the source of the behavior, but since it happens with processes other than Explorer...  What AV software do you use?  Consider uninstalling it and seeing if the behavior persists.  Do you notice the behavior if you're logged in as a different user, or if you boot into safe mode?
